Gujarat’s dictatorial BJP government stopped me from meeting the jailed farmers – Kejriwal

New Delhi/Gujarat, December 2025 : During his three-day visit to Gujarat, Aam Aadmi Party’s national convener Arvind Kejriwal was not allowed by the BJP government to meet the farmers lodged in Rajkot jail on Tuesday. Calling it dictatorship, Kejriwal said that he had applied, but the cruel and oppressive government refused permission. In Gujarat, on one hand farmers are troubled due to BJP government’s repression, and on the other hand children who study by taking loans are becoming unemployed because of paper leaks. Like Ravan and Kansa, the BJP government drowned in arrogance wants to suppress every voice raised against it. But now the people of Gujarat are uniting and the time has come to end BJP’s 30 years of misrule. After two years, the Aam Aadmi Party government will be formed in Gujarat and all cases filed against farmers will be withdrawn.

At a press conference at the party office in Rajkot on Tuesday, Arvind Kejriwal said that today everyone saw the living example of the dictatorship of Gujarat’s BJP government. At 11 a.m. today, he had to go to meet the farmer leaders lodged in Rajkot jail, but he was not allowed to meet them. “What can be bigger dictatorship than this?” he asked. “Am I some terrorist or criminal? Those lodged in jail are farmers, citizens of our country. They too are not criminals.”

Kejriwal said that he had applied on Monday to meet the jailed farmers and leaders. On Tuesday morning he received a message that he was not allowed to meet them. “I was thinking that during the freedom struggle, when the British arrested Sardar Bhagat Singh, even then the British used to allow his comrades to meet him. They never stopped his comrades from meeting him. Did our freedom fighters fight for independence to see a government more cruel and oppressive than the British?”

Kejriwal said that two months ago, an incident happened with the farmers of Hadad who were peacefully demanding their rights. Gujarat is an agriculture-based state. Fifty percent of the population depends on farming. About 54 lakh farmer families depend on agriculture. But today the condition of farmers is very bad, they are very distressed. They do not get seeds, long lines are formed for fertilisers. Farmers do not get full price for their crops. Some people do injustice to farmers. Crop prices are fixed at 1500, but farmers are paid only 1200 rupees.

He said that two months ago, when farmers gathered in Hadad against the ‘Karda Pratha’, the oppressive BJP government lathi-charged them and fired tear gas shells. Police entered the houses of innocent farmers, beat unarmed family members and arrested 88 farmers who were peacefully raising their demands. Fake cases were filed and these farmers have been in jail for two months. So far, 42 farmers have received bail, the rest are still in jail. On days when court hearings for bail take place, the police do not even reach the court. This clearly shows that BJP and its police want to break the morale of the jailed farmers.

Kejriwal said that on Monday he met the families of the jailed farmers and those out on bail. “After hearing the stories of torture inside the jail, sleep will disappear.” The children of farmers who came out of jail said that for 24 hours after arrest they were not given drinking water or food. Police beat them. “Does BJP want to break their morale? BJP should fear God. Ravan and Kansa were also very arrogant. The same arrogance is visible in BJP today.” He said BJP put pressure to stop farmers from meeting him, but they still came. “BJP should understand that the people of Gujarat are now standing against them.”

He said that farmers are distressed and their children are in jail. Farmers take lakhs of rupees in loans to educate their children. But when these children go to take competitive exams, the paper gets leaked. Children who prepare for years by taking thousands from their parents every month are seen crying after paper leaks. “When will the next exam be?” they ask. “Those who leak papers are also BJP people.” Papers are being leaked and children are roaming unemployed.

Kejriwal said the BJP government is not giving jobs to the youth. To stop unemployed children from raising their voice, drugs are being sold across Gujarat. Drugs are available in every lane. Youth are being pushed into addiction. BJP government is destroying every family in Gujarat. “These are BJP’s last days in Gujarat. People across Gujarat are uniting against them.” He said when the children of the farmers arrested in Hadad were jailed, villagers tilled their fields and planted crops for them.

“Today drugs and potholes are being sold openly in Gujarat. In 30 years of rule, BJP has ruined Gujarat and now the time has come to uproot BJP.” Until now, people did not have an option, because BJP and Congress are together, he said. “Both have joint businesses. Congress doesn’t even want BJP to be removed.” But now people have the best option in the Aam Aadmi Party. “AAP is being discussed in every household. People look towards the leaders of AAP with great hope.”

Kejriwal said that BJP does not have even a single leader in Gujarat who gives hope to the people. “AAP leaders speak and people listen, but there is not a single BJP or Congress leader whom the people look at with hope.” He appealed to the people of Gujarat to unite and save the state. “We are small people, Gujarat’s people must take responsibility. Remove fear of BJP from your heart. BJP is playing FIR-FIR games to scare people.” He said he has been to jail himself, and those who raise voice may be jailed, but AAP will fight their battle. “After two years, when AAP forms the government, within 24 hours all fake FIRs will be withdrawn and the ministers who troubled people will be sent to jail.”
