CM Approves ₹32,523 Crore for 220 Development Projects in Pune Metropolitan Region

Nagpur, Dec 2025: Considering the rapid urbanization in the state, the government is prioritizing the provision of urban facilities to citizens. Pune city is also expanding significantly. In this context, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that 220 development projects have been initiated across the Pune Metropolitan Region, with a total approved fund of ₹32,523 crore. He also directed that city development plans should be prepared only after proper road development planning.

The fifth meeting of the Pune Metropolitan Planning Committee was held at the Council Hall of the State Legislature under the chairmanship of CM Fadnavis. Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, Higher & Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, and MLAs Tanaji Sawant, Sunil Shelke, Siddharth Shirole, Shankar Mandekar, among others, were present.

CM Fadnavis emphasized that while preparing the structure plan for Pune Metropolitan Region, future population growth and urbanization must be taken into account. The planning process should be completed quickly. He instructed that overall development should be managed by a single authority, rather than delegating specific areas to multiple authorities.

He further directed that the development planning for the 23 villages merged into Pune Municipal Corporation on June 30, 2021, should be undertaken by PMC, and development plans for Pune’s growth hubs should be verified with government-approved partner institutions. The Maan-Hinjewadi Township Planning project should be completed promptly. Fifteen integrated town planning schemes are underway, and deadlines must be strictly adhered to so that citizens benefit without delays.

The CM also instructed that the flyover near Pune University should be operational immediately for public use, without waiting for formal inauguration. He asked the committee members to collaborate and prepare a Comprehensive Mobility Plan for Pune city, taking into account the inputs of all stakeholders.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Rajesh Agrawal, Additional Chief Secretary (Finance) O.P. Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary (Urban Development) Asim Kumar Gupta, and members of the Pune Metropolitan Planning Committee. Through the foresight system, Divisional Commissioner Chandrakant Pulkundwar, Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, and District Collector Jitendra Dudi participated. Pune Metropolitan Commissioner Yogesh Mhase presented the agenda.

Ongoing projects in Pune Metropolitan Region:

  • Road development: 127 projects covering 589 km of roads; 83 km circular road project within the city.
  • Roads connecting development centers, industrial areas, and airport.
  • 3 bridge/flyover projects; 3 housing projects; 4 water supply projects (including completion of Wagholi water supply).

Upcoming projects:

  • Rejuvenation of Pavana, Indrayani, Mula, and Mutha rivers.
  • 17 projects to ease traffic congestion at city intersections.
  • 10 tourism development projects; 5 projects including skywalks and multi-modal hubs.

Yerwada-Katraj Underground Corridor:
A 20 km underground corridor between Yerwada and Katraj is proposed, with feasibility studies underway. The estimated project cost is ₹7,500 crore.
