Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann Felicitates Women’s World Cup Winners, Inaugurates Stadium Stands

New Chandigarh, Dec 2025 : Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday honored the Punjab members of India’s 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup-winning team at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium. The event also saw the inauguration of stadium stands named after Harmanpreet Kaur, captain of the World Cup-winning team, and Yuvraj Singh, the 2011 men’s World Cup-winning all-rounder.

During the felicitation ceremony, the Chief Minister awarded Rs 11 lakh each to the players Harmanpreet Kaur, Harleen Deol, and Amanjot Kaur, while Indian fielding coach Munish Bali received Rs 5 lakh for his contributions. The ceremony took place ahead of the second T20 International between India and South Africa at the stadium.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab shared details of the event on Instagram, stating that the Chief Minister felicitated the players and coaching staff, while the newly inaugurated stadium stands will serve as a tribute to the cricketing excellence of Harmanpreet Kaur and Yuvraj Singh.

Harmanpreet Kaur played a stellar role in India’s World Cup triumph, scoring 260 runs in eight innings at an average of 32.50, including two half-centuries, with a highest score of 89. Harleen Deol contributed 169 runs in five innings at an average of 33.80, with a top score of 48. Amanjot Kaur made significant contributions both with bat and ball, scoring 146 runs, claiming six wickets, and taking a memorable catch to dismiss South African captain Laura Wolvadt during the final in Navi Mumbai, helping India defend a target of 299 and bowl out South Africa for 246.

All-rounder Deepti Sharma also played a key role, taking five wickets and contributing a half-century of 58 runs in crucial matches. The achievements of Yuvraj Singh in the 2011 Men’s World Cup were also highlighted. Yuvraj was instrumental in India’s victory, scoring 362 runs, including a century and four half-centuries, and taking 15 wickets, earning four Man of the Match awards and becoming the first all-rounder to achieve this milestone in a single World Cup.

The felicitation ceremony celebrated the exceptional performances of both current and past cricket legends from Punjab, acknowledging their contributions to Indian cricket and inspiring future generations of players.
