Focus on Utility While Completing City Development Projects — CM Devendra Fadnavis
Nagpur, Dec 2025 : Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed that while undertaking various development projects in the city, priority must be given to their long-term utility and relevance. He emphasized that funds should be allocated from the District Planning Committee to complete currently pending projects.
The review meeting was held at the Vidhan Bhavan under the chairmanship of CM Fadnavis to address various issues concerning the Amravati Municipal Corporation. The meeting was attended by Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, Revenue Minister and Guardian Minister of Amravati Chandrashekhar Bawankule, MLAs Sanjay Khodke, Sulbha Khodke, Ravi Rana, Chief Secretary Rajesh Agrawal, Additional Chief Secretaries O.P. Gupta, Aseem Kumar Gupta, Abha Shukla, Principal Secretary Saurabh Vijay, Divisional Commissioner Dr. Shweta Singhal, District Collector Ashish Yerekar, Municipal Commissioner Soumya Sharma, along with heads of relevant departments.
CM Fadnavis stated that while various development works in Amravati will be provided necessary funding, project selection should consider future requirements. The Rajkamal Railway Overbridge has reached its construction limit, causing traffic congestion. Guidance should be taken from MahaRail on how to fully strengthen and rebuild the overbridge.
Efforts should be made to develop an IT Park in Amravati in a way that generates employment based on local response. Projects under the AMRUT scheme, including water treatment plants, pipelines, and water tank construction, should be completed promptly to ensure regular water supply.
CM Fadnavis emphasized that new projects should be proposed only after existing projects are operational, and planning should ensure their long-term significance and purpose. Maintenance and repair work for completed projects should be funded from generated revenue. The Chhatri Talav is being developed as a tourist spot, and construction work should be completed quickly for citizen convenience and tourist attraction. Funds from the District Planning Committee should be allocated for this.
He also highlighted the need to increase the number of underground drains to meet the needs of a growing population. Currently, only 20% of Amravati has underground drainage. Immediate action is required to complete the drainage system for sanitation and public health. Proposals for rebuilding the old Red School and Town Hall near Nehru Maidan will also receive necessary funding.
CM Fadnavis instructed that Nehru Maidan should be preserved during development work. Around crowded areas like Shri Ambadevi and Shri Ekviradevi temples, proposed projects should consider traffic, drainage, wastewater management, shops near temples, facilities for devotees, and parking arrangements.
Regarding Hanumangadhi, an emerging religious and tourist site, CM Fadnavis directed the use of locally available construction materials and phased funding for project implementation. Alternative sites should be explored for the Amravati Municipal Corporation headquarters building, and MIDC land rates should be reduced under PM Mitra Park to attract new industries.
