Crown Prince Drives PM Modi to Jordan Museum, India–Jordan Ties Gain New Momentum
Amman, Dec 2025 : In a rare and warm gesture highlighting the close personal rapport between the leadership of India and Jordan, Crown Prince Al Hussein Bin Abdullah II on Tuesday personally drove Prime Minister Narendra Modi to The Jordan Museum in Amman. The Crown Prince, who is the 42nd-generation direct descendant of Prophet Mohammad, accompanied the Prime Minister during the visit, underscoring the deep respect and goodwill shared between the two nations.
Sharing photographs of the moment on social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi wrote, “On the way to The Jordan Museum with His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al-Hussein bin Abdullah II.” The images reflected the cordial atmosphere of the visit and symbolised the growing warmth in India–Jordan relations.
The Jordan Museum, a landmark cultural institution in the capital, preserves and presents the country’s rich and diverse heritage. As described on its official website, the museum functions as a learning centre that shares knowledge through interactive exhibitions, conservation initiatives, and educational programmes. It narrates the story of Jordan’s innovation and civilisation, spanning nearly 1.5 million years of archaeological and historical evolution, making it one of the most significant cultural repositories in the region.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi shared the outcomes of his Jordan visit, describing them as a “meaningful expansion” of the partnership between the two countries. His visit marked an important milestone in bilateral relations, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between India and Jordan.
On Monday, Prime Minister Modi held extensive talks with King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein at the Al Husseiniya Palace. During the meeting, the Prime Minister proposed that both countries work towards increasing bilateral trade to USD 5 billion in the coming years. He also suggested cooperation between Jordan’s digital payment ecosystem and India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI), highlighting India’s experience in digital public infrastructure.
Several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were finalised during the visit, covering areas such as culture, renewable energy, water management, digital public infrastructure, and a unique twinning arrangement between Petra in Jordan and Ellora in India. These agreements are expected to open new avenues for cooperation and people-to-people engagement.
Taking to X, Prime Minister Modi said, “These outcomes mark a meaningful expansion of the India-Jordan partnership. Our cooperation in new and renewable energy reflects a shared commitment to clean growth, energy security and climate responsibility.” He added that collaboration in water resource management would help both nations share best practices in conservation, efficiency, and technology to ensure long-term water security.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of the twinning agreement between Petra and Ellora, stating that it would promote heritage conservation, tourism, and academic exchanges. He further noted that the renewal of the Cultural Exchange Programme for 2025–2029 would deepen people-to-people ties, while sharing India’s digital innovations would support Jordan’s digital transformation and inclusive governance.
In addition to bilateral cooperation, Prime Minister Modi and King Abdullah II exchanged views on regional developments and broader global issues. Both leaders reiterated the importance of restoring peace and stability in the region, with Prime Minister Modi reaffirming India’s support for ongoing efforts to achieve a durable and lasting peace.
Prime Minister Modi arrived in Amman on Monday afternoon as part of his three-nation tour, which also includes visits to Ethiopia and Oman—countries with which India shares ancient civilisational links as well as strong contemporary partnerships. In another special gesture, Jordanian Prime Minister Jafar Hassan personally welcomed Prime Minister Modi at the airport. This visit marks Prime Minister Modi’s first full-fledged bilateral visit to Jordan, following a brief transit visit in February 2018 en route to the State of Palestine.
