First Community Solar Rooftop Plant Installed in Lucknow under PM Surya Ghar Scheme in a Resident Welfare Association

15 kW solar plant installed at Surya Apartment saves up to ₹20,000 per month

Boost to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s energy policy

Lucknow, December 2023 : Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh has achieved an important milestone in promoting renewable energy. For the first time in Lucknow, a community solar rooftop plant has been successfully installed in a Resident Welfare Association (RWA) under the Central Government’s PM Surya Ghar Scheme.

The 15 kW rooftop solar system installed at Surya Apartments RWA on Gokhale Marg is not only saving up to ₹20,000 per month in electricity bills, but is also strengthening the Yogi Government’s green energy policy. This is the first-ever solar rooftop plant set up under the PM Surya Ghar Scheme for a community space in any RWA in Lucknow.

Under the efforts led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to promote renewable energy, the Uttar Pradesh Government is effectively implementing the PM Surya Ghar Scheme in the state. In this sequence, rooftop solar installations are being encouraged to meet power requirements of common areas in Group Housing Societies (GHS) and Resident Welfare Associations (RWA).

The scheme provides for installation of rooftop solar plants with a capacity of up to 500 kW for community lighting, fans, water pumps, lifts, and other common facilities. For this, the Government of India is providing central financial assistance of ₹18,000 per kW. With the support of the Energy Department and DISCOMs under the Yogi Government, RWAs are being enabled to benefit from the scheme.

The total cost of this project was ₹8.10 lakh, against which the RWA received a central subsidy of ₹2.70 lakh. After commissioning the plant, monthly electricity bill savings have reached between ₹15,000 and ₹20,000. This has not only reduced expenses on community facilities, but has also enabled better amenities for residents.

This initiative reflects the ground-level implementation of the Yogi Government’s policy on green energy, a self-reliant Uttar Pradesh, and a clean environment. It serves as an inspiration for other RWAs and group housing societies in Lucknow as well as across the state.

All RWAs are being encouraged to take advantage of the PM Surya Ghar Scheme with the support of the Yogi Government, install rooftop solar systems in their common areas, and become partners in advancing green energy.
