Smoother Travel for Commuters from Dharamshala–Gorakhnath Temple Route to Sonouli Road

Gorakhpur, December 2025 : A major development aimed at improving traffic flow in Gorakhpur is set to take place under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The construction of the new Gorakhnath overbridge on the Dharamshala–Gorakhnath Temple route, which connects the world-famous Gorakhnath Temple of the Nath tradition to the Sonouli Road leading up to Nepal, has been completed. The newly built overbridge will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister on Friday (December 19).

At present, an overbridge already exists on Crossing No. 162A between Domingarh and Gorakhpur Junction railway stations on the Lucknow–Gorakhpur rail route located along the Dharamshala–Gorakhnath Temple corridor. However, due to increasing traffic pressure on this bridge, Chief Minister Yogi directed the construction of another parallel overbridge. The new bridge has been built at a cost of ₹137.83 crore.

According to Mithilesh Kumar, General Manager of Uttar Pradesh Setu Nigam, the executing agency, the new overbridge is 600.653 meters long and 7.50 meters wide, with the railway span accounting for 76 meters of the total length. The Gorakhnath Temple route is among the busiest roads in the city. Once the new overbridge is opened to the public, vehicles heading towards Gorakhnath will no longer need to use the old bridge. Separate bridges for incoming and outgoing traffic will significantly reduce congestion.

Convenience for Devotees Visiting the Khichdi Mela

With the addition of the second overbridge on the Gorakhnath Temple route, travel will become much smoother for residents of the city’s northwest region and for people traveling on the Sonouli Road. Moreover, devotees visiting the Gorakhnath Temple during the month-long Khichdi Mela, which begins on Makar Sankranti, will also experience major relief and ease of movement.

New Overbridge Enhanced with View Cutters

The new Gorakhnath overbridge features special enhancements not found on the existing bridge in the city. View cutters have been installed on both sides of the structure, which will help maintain the privacy of nearby homes and reduce the noise level from passing vehicles.
