India has the potential to become ‘Vishwaguru’ by blending ancient knowledge with modern technology – Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis
Mumbai, Dec 2025 : Ancient India was one of the world’s most advanced and economically powerful nations. The country held a leading position globally because of its knowledge, traditions, and culture. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed confidence that India can once again become a ‘Vishwaguru’ (world leader) by effectively combining this ancient knowledge with modern technology.
He was speaking at the inauguration of the World Economic Forum held at the Grand Hyatt in the Bandra-Kurla Complex. Present on the occasion were Rajesh Sharma, Chairman of KP Global; Swami Vidyanand, Founder Chairman of the World Economic Forum; Sajjan Jindal, Chairman of JSW Group; and Shailesh Trivedi, CEO and Managing Director of the IT Department.
Referring to the theme ‘Innovation, Self-Reliance and Prosperity’, which guides the nation’s development vision, the Chief Minister said that Hinduism is not merely a religion but a lifestyle and a thought system. This tradition has remained alive for thousands of years. While many ancient cultures have vanished, the Sindhu–Hindu civilisation continues to survive. Evidence proves that this cultural continuity has existed for over 10,000 years. India is the original source of innovation. Subjects like astronomy and geography were highly advanced in ancient India, with references found in the Vedas and pre-Vedic literature.
He noted that the fifth industrial revolution has begun globally, driven by digitisation. Artificial Intelligence and data hold exceptional importance in this revolution. Production is key to this progress, he said, adding that the manufacturing sector is the backbone of the economy. Innovation is rooted in production, and India has the ability to lead this revolution.
Citing Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Fadnavis said that India is leading in the field of AI and data, and by 2030, India will have the highest number of developers in the world. AI is transforming industries, and India has the potential to lead this wave of innovation.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’, Fadnavis said that self-reliance is essential for a nation with a population of 140 crore. Indigenous production and technological development by Indian companies are strengthening the country. Unlike China, which used and reverse-engineered Japanese technology, India understands technology deeply and can achieve self-reliance.
He further said that while global trust in China has weakened due to expansionist policies, trust in India’s leadership and culture is increasing. Africa offers new opportunities for growth, and whichever country participates actively will lead globally. Many African nations consider PM Modi their leader.
A grand facility to host 54 African nations will soon be built in Mumbai, he said, encouraging entrepreneurs to focus on Africa. The continent has immense natural resources and raw materials crucial for new-age technology. If production begins in Africa, the global economy will undergo transformative change — and India will lead it.
He also mentioned that Papua New Guinea has invited India for gas excavation projects. These opportunities, he said, are the result of India’s ancient, globally oriented philosophy — a tradition that believes in winning the world through ideas. Platforms like the World Economic Forum can connect these possibilities. Achieving a 20% share in global trade is possible through such a broad vision.
During the event, the Bangar Group of Shree Cement presented an ‘Intent Letter’ to invest Rs 2,000 crore in Chandrapur, Maharashtra — a sign of confidence in the state’s development.
Swami Vidyanand said that the forum’s objective is national development, and true progress lies in making every citizen economically empowered.
Rajesh Sharma added that India will play a decisive role in the global economy. Innovation is rising rapidly, and India is advancing in manufacturing.
Sajjan Jindal said Maharashtra is the most advanced state in the country. MoUs worth Rs 3 lakh crore signed in Davos are becoming reality, thanks to Chief Minister Fadnavis. Entrepreneurs from across India attended the event in large numbers.
