LG Accused of Neglecting Delhi’s Pollution Crisis
New Delhi, December 2025 Leaving Delhi to choke in pollution, the Lieutenant Governor is allegedly enjoying himself in Gujarat—this charge is now echoing through the capital’s toxic air. As Delhi grapples with severe air pollution, questions are being raised about whether the LG has returned from his trip. The focus, critics allege, appears to be not on solutions but on letters and camera appearances.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said bluntly that the LG now seems to have only one task left—writing letters and taking action against Arvind Kejriwal. He remarked that this fixation existed even when Kejriwal was in power, and continues even now when he is no longer the Chief Minister. According to Singh, this is not a coincidence but the execution of a predetermined role.
AAP National Media In-charge Anurag Dhanda launched a sharp attack, asking whether the LG remembers that Delhi’s current Chief Minister is Rekha Gupta. If questions were to be raised on pollution, he said, they should be directed at the present government. Instead, decisions like imposing GRAP-4 one day and withdrawing it the next are pushing Delhi deeper into the pollution crisis.
Dhanda said the capital’s air is damaging people’s lungs, but it appears to have affected the LG’s memory as well. Referring to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s remark about searching for “two specimens,” Dhanda sarcastically noted that one specimen has already proven himself, while the other is now openly raising his hand before the camera, saying, “I am here too.” He added that this obsession with cameras, combined with a lack of ground-level work, has become the reality of Delhi today.
The reality, Dhanda said, is that the present state of Delhi is being blamed on a government that is no longer in power. This either reflects ignorance of facts or a deliberate attempt to turn away from the truth. As Lieutenant Governor, the role should have been to provide solutions, not to make political statements like a BJP government functionary. Accountability for pollution, roads, inflation, and disorder now lies with the BJP-led government and its negligent administration.
Failures of the present cannot be hidden by repeatedly criticising the past. The people of Delhi are watching and understand clearly who delivered work and who started making excuses after coming to power. When even their own government does not take the LG seriously, why should the public? That is why attempts to divert attention from real issues are being exposed.
The letter written by LG Vinai Kumar Saxena to former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on pollution has, in effect, become yet another exercise in avoiding accountability. Delhi needs decisive action, consistent policy, and responsible governance. The capital will not be saved by politics of letters and cameras, but only through clean air and clean intent.
