India Women Complete Historic 5–0 Clean Sweep Over Sri Lanka with Gritty 15-Run Win

Dec 2025 : The Indian women’s cricket team capped off a dominant series in emphatic fashion, defeating Sri Lanka by 15 runs in the fifth and final T20 International at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday. With this victory, India completed a comprehensive 5–0 clean sweep, marking the first time the Indian women’s side has whitewashed Sri Lanka in a T20I series.

Opting to bat first after losing the toss, India faced early trouble as their top order faltered under pressure. In-form opener Shafali Verma, who had enjoyed a strong run earlier in the series, was dismissed cheaply for just 5 off 6 balls. Debutant G Kamalini followed soon after, scoring 12 off 12 deliveries, while Harleen Deol managed only 13. The early collapse left India reeling at 77 for 5, threatening to derail their bid for a competitive total.

At this crucial juncture, captain Harmanpreet Kaur once again proved her value as a leader and batter. Showing composure and authority, she steadied the innings with a captain’s knock, carefully rebuilding while keeping the scoreboard ticking. Harmanpreet found an able partner in Amanjot Kaur, and the duo stitched together a vital 61-run partnership that shifted momentum back in India’s favour.

Harmanpreet reached her half-century in just 35 balls, blending calculated aggression with maturity. Amanjot contributed a valuable 21 off 18 balls, including a four and a six, before being dismissed. The Indian skipper continued to anchor the innings and eventually departed after scoring a brilliant 68 off 43 balls, laced with nine fours and a six.

The late flourish came courtesy of Arundhati Reddy, who played a fearless cameo, remaining unbeaten on 27 off just 11 balls. Her quick-fire knock, which included four boundaries and a six, ensured India finished strongly at 175 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs. For Sri Lanka, Kavisha, Rashmika, and Chamari Athapaththu claimed two wickets each, while Nimasha chipped in with one.

Chasing 176, Sri Lanka’s innings began on a disappointing note as captain Chamari Athapaththu was dismissed early for 2 off 5 balls. However, Hasini Perera and Imesha Dulani brought stability to the chase with a solid partnership for the second wicket. The pair added 79 runs, reviving Sri Lanka’s hopes and putting pressure back on the Indian bowlers.

Imesha Dulani played a fluent knock, reaching her half-century in 38 balls, while Hasini provided strong support at the other end. The breakthrough came when Amanjot Kaur struck on the very first ball of her spell, dismissing Imesha for 50 off 39 balls, which included eight fours. Soon after, Hasini Perera was also removed, ending her impressive innings of 65.

With the dismissal of their two set batters, Sri Lanka’s chase lost momentum. India’s bowlers tightened the screws, striking at regular intervals and preventing any late surge. Despite batting through the full 20 overs, Sri Lanka could only muster 160 for 7, falling short by 15 runs.

India’s bowling effort was a collective success, reflecting disciplined execution and sharp captaincy. Harmanpreet Kaur rotated six bowlers, and each delivered by picking up at least one wicket. Deepti Sharma, Arundhati Reddy, Sneh Rana, Vaishnavi Sharma, Shree Charani, and Amanjot Kaur all made meaningful contributions. Deepti Sharma also achieved a personal milestone, becoming the leading wicket-taker in women’s T20I history.

The 5–0 series sweep underlined India’s complete dominance throughout the tour. From batting depth to bowling variety and tactical awareness, the Indian women outclassed Sri Lanka in all departments. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s leadership stood out, both with the bat and in guiding her team through pressure situations.

This clean sweep not only adds a historic chapter to Indian women’s cricket but also provides a strong and confident finish to the year, reaffirming India’s growing stature in the shortest format of the game.
