Xi Jinping’s New Year Message: China Pledges Peace, Innovation and Unstoppable Reunification
Beijing, Dec 31, 2025 : Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday delivered his 2026 New Year message, reiterating China’s commitment to global peace, shared development and a more just international order, while asserting that the country’s reunification is “unstoppable.”
Reflecting on the past year, President Xi said China continued to engage with the world with openness and confidence, positioning itself as a responsible global power amid growing geopolitical and economic challenges. He underlined that China is ready to work with all nations to advance world peace and promote common development.
Addressing climate change, Xi said China announced new Nationally Determined Contributions as part of its efforts to tackle global warming and support sustainable development. He noted that China has taken a proactive role in global affairs by putting forward a series of initiatives, including the Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative and Global Civilization Initiative. Building on these efforts, Xi said he proposed the Global Governance Initiative to promote a fairer and more equitable system of international governance. “China always stands on the right side of history,” he asserted.
On issues of national sovereignty, President Xi reaffirmed Beijing’s firm stance on Taiwan. He said the reunification of China is an inevitable trend of the times and cannot be stopped. Stressing emotional and cultural ties, he added that people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait are bound by blood and kinship. He also reiterated China’s commitment to the “one country, two systems” principle, saying Hong Kong and Macao would continue to receive strong support to integrate with the country’s overall development while maintaining long-term prosperity and stability.
Xi also highlighted China’s rapid strides in science, technology and innovation over the past year. He said the deep integration of technology with industry has led to a surge of breakthroughs, particularly in artificial intelligence, where multiple large-scale AI models are competing at the global level. According to him, these developments have placed China among the world’s fastest-growing innovation-driven economies.
He cited several technological milestones, including the launch of the Tianwen-2 probe to explore asteroids and comets, the start of construction on a major hydropower project on the lower reaches of the Yarlung Zangbo River, and the commissioning of China’s first aircraft carrier equipped with an electromagnetic catapult system. Xi also pointed to advances in robotics and drone technology, which captured public imagination through impressive demonstrations.
“Inventions and innovations have strengthened new-quality productive forces and added vibrant colors to our lives,” Xi said, expressing confidence that China’s momentum will continue into the new year.
