Bharat Taxi Gains Rapid Momentum, Emerges as Cooperative Challenger to Ola and Uber

New Delhi, Jan 2026 : A newly launched, government-backed cab-hailing platform, Bharat Taxi, is witnessing a strong early surge in adoption across India, signalling growing public interest in a cooperative-based alternative to established ride-hailing giants Ola and Uber.

Supported by the Ministry of Cooperation, Bharat Taxi has seen an impressive rise in registrations within days of its launch. According to official estimates, nearly 40,000 to 45,000 new users have been signing up daily over the past two days. A post shared by the Ministry of Cooperation on social media platform X revealed that the app has already crossed four lakh registered customers, reflecting strong initial traction.

The rapid uptake has also translated into encouraging app store rankings. Bharat Taxi currently stands ninth on the Google Play Store and thirteenth on Apple’s App Store, while its driver-centric application has reached the 20th position on the Play Store. Officials say this phase represents a preparatory build-up toward a broader nationwide rollout under the government’s “Atmanirbhar Bharat” and “Sahkar Se Samriddhi” vision led by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah.

Bharat Taxi has been positioned as a cooperative-driven and transparent alternative to existing private cab aggregators. The platform places a strong emphasis on driver welfare, safety, and accountability, with features such as police-verified drivers and integrated safety tools aimed at reassuring passengers.

Available on both Android and iOS platforms, the app is steadily carving out space in India’s highly competitive ride-hailing ecosystem. From a user perspective, Bharat Taxi offers a clean, minimal, and easy-to-navigate interface, enabling hassle-free booking of city rides. In addition to standard cab services, the app also provides metro ticket booking and cab rentals for durations of up to 12 hours, adding convenience for urban commuters.

Safety has been positioned as a core feature of the platform. The app includes multiple in-built safety options such as one-touch access to police assistance, emergency contact alerts, direct connection to a safety team, and a siren activation feature. While similar safety tools exist on rival platforms, their real-world effectiveness on Bharat Taxi will become clearer as the user base expands.

Early users, however, have pointed out some areas that still require refinement. Fare structures do not consistently appear more competitive than those of Ola or Uber, and there have been instances of pricing anomalies, such as similar fares for AC and non-AC cabs. These issues suggest that the platform is still undergoing technical and operational fine-tuning.

The registration process is straightforward and user-friendly, requiring only basic details such as a mobile number, name, and email address. Despite this ease of onboarding, the overall experience still reflects a platform in its early stages.

One of Bharat Taxi’s most significant differentiators is its driver-first model. The platform currently claims it does not charge any commission from drivers, allowing them to retain the entire fare paid by passengers. Additionally, there are plans to establish dedicated pickup and drop zones at airports, similar to existing arrangements for major aggregators, with expansion to other transport hubs in the pipeline.

As Bharat Taxi scales up operations, its ability to balance affordability, reliability, and service quality will determine whether it can sustain momentum and emerge as a serious long-term competitor in India’s ride-hailing market.

Team Maverick.
