Revenue Growth Through Forestry Activities in Maoist-Affected Areas by the Chhattisgarh State Forest Development Corporation

Raipur, January 2026 : Under the directions of the Minister for Forest and Climate Change, the Chhattisgarh State Forest Development Corporation is not only enhancing revenue through forestry operations in Maoist-affected and sensitive regions, but is also making a significant contribution to the socio-economic development of local communities by generating employment for rural and forest-dwelling residents.

In Kanker district, within the Antagarh Project Division, forestry activities such as teak thinning, felling, and plantation are being carried out successfully in highly sensitive areas including Koylibeda, Antagarh, Durgukondal, and Manhakal. During the previous year, a total of 4,624.358 cubic metres of timber and firewood was produced from these areas, leading to a substantial increase in the Corporation’s revenue. These operations have provided direct and indirect employment to a large number of local villagers, helping reduce migration and improve living standards.

Similarly, the Industrial Plantation Division, Jagdalpur, is creating livelihood opportunities for villagers through plantation and felling activities in Naxal-affected regions of the Bastar division, such as Kondagaon and Farasgaon. In the year 2024, approximately 1,000 cubic metres of forest produce was generated from these areas. In addition, 2.35 lakh teak saplings were planted across 94 hectares of land.

In 2025, plantation activities were expanded further in forest areas freed from encroachment. During this period, 1.90 lakh teak saplings were planted over 76 hectares, while 95,000 eucalyptus saplings were planted over 38 hectares. These efforts not only support forest regeneration but also ensure sustained employment for local communities.

The establishment of security camps has improved access to previously remote and inaccessible areas, accelerating forestry operations. Regions that were once marked by violence and fear are now witnessing a transformation, with employment opportunities, development initiatives, and greenery taking root.

This initiative by the Chhattisgarh State Forest Development Corporation is a commendable step towards integrating local populations of Maoist-affected areas into the mainstream, expanding employment opportunities, conserving forests, and promoting economic prosperity alongside environmental protection.
