Khadi is a Tool for Sustainable Development – Chairman Ravindra Sathe
Mumbai : “Khadi is not just a fabric; it is a way of life and a tool for sustainable development,” said Ravindra Sathe, Chairman of the State Khadi and Village Industries Board. He recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to the nation, made during the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program, encouraging people to embrace Khadi. Sathe highlighted that for the past 64 years, the Khadi and Village Industries Board has tirelessly worked to empower small entrepreneurs across the state.
Sathe made these remarks during the Gramodyog Bharari Award distribution ceremony, held at the Yashwantrao Chavan Auditorium to mark the 64th anniversary of the State Khadi and Village Industries Board. The event recognized entrepreneurs who have successfully established businesses in rural areas. The occasion was attended by Chief Executive Officer R. Vimala, Co-Chief Executive Officer Reshma Mali, Economic Adviser Smita Kharat, Deputy Chief Executive Officer Bipin Jagtap, Khadi Commission Director Yogesh Bhamre, Nityannad Patil, District Village Industry Officer, and successful entrepreneurs from various parts of the state.
Chairman Sathe emphasized that the award serves as an inspiration for rural entrepreneurs. He noted that the Board is implementing several schemes aimed at generating employment in rural areas, with “Madhache Gaon” being one of the innovative schemes effectively executed across the state. He also mentioned that beekeeping is gaining popularity as a supplementary business to agriculture. Sathe affirmed that the Board has been supporting rural communities for 64 years, not only by creating employment but also by providing financial support.
Chief Executive Officer R. Vimala lauded the Board’s significant contributions to employment, environmental sustainability, and people-oriented initiatives. She stated that thousands of individuals have become self-reliant through the Board’s efforts, and that rural entrepreneurs are making substantial social contributions. She also expressed that the award program, held in honor of the Board’s anniversary, serves as an inspiration to many.
The Gramodyog Bharari Award winners were Kausar Khan from Sindhudurg (first place), Pramod Roman from Pune (second place), and Shrikant Yerne from Gondia (third place). Additionally, incentive awards were presented to Sujata Pawar from Thane, Balaji Kajalwad from Nanded, and Ujwala Gopal Chandan from Amravati by the dignitaries.
During the event, Bipin Jagtap and Yogesh Bhamre also addressed the audience. The Gramodyog issue was released as part of the Board’s anniversary celebration.
The award recipients expressed their gratitude during the program. The event was moderated by Rashmi Mhambare, with the vote of thanks delivered by Reshma Mali.
