Telangana Government Plans Statewide Breakfast and Lunch Scheme for Students

Hyderabad, Jan 2026 : The Telangana government has announced plans to introduce a comprehensive breakfast and lunch scheme for students across all government schools in the state. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy reviewed an ongoing initiative run by an NGO in government schools of the Kodangal Assembly constituency, which he represents, and directed officials to explore the feasibility of scaling it statewide.

During the review, NGO representatives informed the Chief Minister that they are prepared to implement the scheme throughout Telangana, provided the government offers adequate space and necessary support for operations. In response, the Chief Minister instructed officials to prepare a plan ensuring timely delivery of meals to students, suggesting one centralized kitchen for every two constituencies to streamline operations efficiently.

CM Reddy further directed State Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao to convene a meeting with district collectors to identify land for the kitchens, recommending either the allocation of two acres per kitchen or obtaining land on a 99-year lease. The initiative aims to enhance nutritional support for students and promote regular school attendance.

In addition to the meal scheme, the Chief Minister emphasized the expansion of the Young India Integrated Residential Schools (YIIRC) project, urging officials to prioritize girls’ schools in the first phase. He set a three-year timeline for the construction of one YIIRC each for boys and girls in every constituency. Boys’ schools are planned to be allocated in the subsequent phase in constituencies where girls’ schools have already been established.

CM Reddy also called for the exploration of solar-powered kitchens in integrated residential schools under the PM-KUSUM scheme, along with the prompt clearance of pending bills related to school construction projects. In Hyderabad, he instructed the Education Department to complete 23 new school buildings by the next academic year, ensuring that each school is developed on at least 1.5 acres of land.

The review also covered curriculum reforms, with the Chief Minister directing officials to revise the syllabus from first to tenth standard to better align with future academic and professional requirements. Additionally, he urged the fast-tracking of the construction of Veeranaari Chakali Ilamma Women’s University, highlighting the government’s focus on enhancing educational infrastructure and promoting skill development.

The move reflects Telangana’s commitment to improving student nutrition, educational facilities, and overall learning outcomes, positioning the state as a pioneer in holistic school development initiatives.
