Promotion of Rooftop Solar in the State: Chief Secretary Reviews Progress of PM Surya Ghar and 150-Unit Free Electricity Scheme
Jaipur, January 2026: Chief Secretary Shri V. Srinivas reviewed the effective implementation of the Prime Minister’s Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme and the state’s 150-unit free electricity scheme on Thursday at the Secretariat.
During the meeting, the Chief Secretary stated that the state government is promoting solar energy to reduce dependence on non-renewable energy sources. He directed that efforts should be increased to install rooftop solar systems in government offices as well.
He emphasized that the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme is extremely important for providing affordable and clean energy to citizens, and the state government is committed to its successful implementation. Officials were instructed to enroll as many eligible domestic consumers as possible and to regularly monitor progress against set timelines.
It is noteworthy that, so far, 1,23,701 rooftop solar plants have been installed under the PM Surya Ghar Scheme in the state, placing Rajasthan fifth at the national level. This progress continues to position the state as a leader in renewable energy.
During the meeting, a presentation was made on the current status of rooftop solar installations in the state, the number of approved and pending applications, subsidy approvals, and progress on grid connections.
Shri Rohit Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director of Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Limited, updated participants on the progress in connecting government offices to rooftop solar systems.
The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary of the Energy Department Shri Ajitabh Sharma, Principal Secretary of Finance Shri Vaibhav Galleria, and Chairperson of Rajasthan Discom, Ms. Aarti Dogra.
