Concept of “Wealth from Waste” to Be Realised Through 282 Waste Management Units

103 units completed, 132 units under construction; remaining units to be set up in phases

Plastic waste management launched in 304 development blocks; 515 development blocks covered by urban MRFs

A major step towards plastic-free Uttar Pradesh as Yogi government’s mega plan takes shape on the ground

Lucknow, January 2026 : In line with the vision of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, a major and decisive step is being taken to make Uttar Pradesh free from plastic waste. Under Mission Clean UP, a network of 282 plastic waste management units is being developed across the state. Through this mega plan, a concrete initiative has begun to transform Uttar Pradesh into a plastic waste–free state.

So far, 103 plastic waste management units have been completed, while construction work on 132 units is progressing rapidly. The remaining units will be established in a phased manner. These units will handle the collection, segregation, and scientific disposal of plastic waste. This will not only strengthen cleanliness and environmental protection but also turn the concept of “wealth from waste” into a reality.

Plastic waste to be processed systematically instead of being dumped in the open

Director of Panchayati Raj, Amit Kumar Singh, said that under this campaign of the Yogi government, plastic waste management systems have already been launched in 304 development blocks. In urban areas, 515 development blocks have been covered under Urban Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs). As a direct result, plastic waste will no longer be dumped in the open but will be processed in an organised and scientific manner, enabling effective control over pollution.

Strong plastic waste management chain to be created in all development blocks

The Yogi government aims to establish a strong and comprehensive plastic waste management chain in all development blocks of the state. For this purpose, an integrated model is being implemented, covering everything from gram panchayats to urban local bodies. Officials stated that this plan will not only accelerate the cleanliness drive but will also help free the state from plastic pollution.

A new identity towards clean, green, and sustainable development

Amit Kumar Singh further said that plastic waste management units will provide significant relief to the environment by reducing pollution, while also generating new employment opportunities at the local level. This mega plan of the Yogi government is set to give Uttar Pradesh a new identity as a clean, green, and sustainably developing state, reinforcing long-term environmental responsibility along with economic and social benefits.
