Indore’s identity lies in its resilient citizens, indomitable spirit and progressive outlook: CM Dr. Yadav
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav stated that Indore has been moving forward on the path of progress, development and innovation. It has emerged as one of the fastest-growing cities in the country. He said that Indore has carved a distinct identity in the fields of development, cleanliness, industry, trade, and good governance, making the entire State of Madhya Pradesh proud. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav remarked that Indore’s true identity lies in its hardworking people, indomitable spirit and progressive mindset. Every district of the State aspires to become like Indore. The chief Minister stated that during challenging times, the government, municipal corporation and administration stood firmly with citizens, making every possible effort with sensitivity and commitment.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav performed Bhoomi Poojan for a long-awaited drinking water supply project worth over ₹800 crore under the Swachh Jal Abhiyan, as part of the AMRUT 2.0 Indore Water Supply Scheme (Package–1) on Wednesday. The project aims to provide a robust, modern, and long-term solution to Indore’s drinking water needs.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav, extending greetings on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, said that the recent water-related incident in the Bhagirathpura area had caused deep anguish. Expressing profound condolences to the families of the deceased, he prayed to Baba Mahakal for peace to the departed souls. He noted that Makar Sankranti is not merely a festival, but a symbol of steady progress, just as the sun begins its northward journey and light increases, Indore continues to advance towards growth, development and innovation.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that Indore would not resort to opportunistic politics in times of disaster. While a positive and constructive opposition strengthens democracy, politicising human suffering is wholly inappropriate. He recalled the long struggle to connect the Malwa and Nimar regions with Narmada water and said that credit for completing the Sardar Sarovar Dam and ensuring national water security goes to Narendra Modi. This has led to a historic increase in irrigation capacity, enabling irrigation across more than 56 lakh hectares in Madhya Pradesh.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav, referring to river-linking projects, said the Parvati–Kalisindh–Chambal (PKC) project would prove to be a boon for Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. He said the Ken–Betwa River Linking Project, envisioned by former Prime Minister late Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji, has now been realised under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Modi. Through the Jal Jeevan Mission, the government is committed to supplying clean drinking water to every village and city. With the Prime Minister’s guidance and full support of the State government, Indore is moving ahead towards self-reliance, he said, assuring that the government stands firmly with Indore.
Chief Minister offered prayers and garlanded the statue of Maa Narmada. He also paid floral tributes to the statues of Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Lata Mangeshkar in the auditorium premises.
Urban Administration and Housing Minister Shri Kailash Vijayvargiya recalled the historic public movement to bring Narmada water to Indore, describing it as a symbol of the city’s collective strength and resolve. He said the Narmada water project was not merely a scheme, but the outcome of Indore’s public determination. He said, expressing pride in Indore’s cleanliness, that the city’s identity has been shaped not only by development but also by active citizen participation, with sanitation workers being the true strength of Indore. He asserted that Indore was, is, and will remain number one.
Water Resources Minister Shri Tulsiram Silawat said that the pledge of a developed India taken by Prime Minister Shri Modi is being realised in Madhya Pradesh under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Yadav. He said development works are progressing rapidly, with the government committed to delivering benefits to the last person, not only in infrastructure but also in education, health, water resources and employment.
Mayor Shri Pushyamitra Bhargava, expressing gratitude to the Chief Minister, said that keeping Indore’s future water requirements in mind, a ₹1,100-crore plan was expanded with foresight to ₹2,400 crore. He stated that the project includes 10 years of operation and maintenance (O&M), ensuring a long-term, safe and high-quality drinking water supply. Once completed, the project will effectively meet Indore’s present and future drinking water needs and will prove to be a milestone in providing clean, adequate and reliable water to the city.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav outlined key features of the project, including a 1,650 MLD intake well at villages Jalud and Bhakalay, construction of 2,235 mm diameter raw and clear water pumping mains, 11 kV, 33 kV, and 132 kV substations for uninterrupted power supply, a 400 MLD modern water treatment plant and a 12 MLD break pressure tank for water pressure regulation. He expressed confidence that with public cooperation, Indore will continue its journey towards excellence.
