AM Green to Invest $10 Billion in Green Ammonia Export Terminal at Kakinada: Nara Lokesh
Kakinada is set to emerge as a key hub in India’s renewable energy journey with Andhra Pradesh IT and Human Resources Development Minister Nara Lokesh announcing a landmark investment of $10 billion (around ₹90,000 crore) by AM Green. The investment will be used to set up a world-class green ammonia export terminal in the port city, significantly boosting the state’s industrial and clean energy profile.
Sharing details of the project, Minister Lokesh said the initiative marks a major step forward for both Andhra Pradesh and India in the global transition towards sustainable energy. The green ammonia terminal will have an annual production capacity of 1.5 million tonnes and is expected to cater to leading international markets, including Germany, Singapore and Japan.
The project is also poised to deliver substantial employment benefits. According to the Minister, the facility will generate more than 8,000 high-quality jobs, creating new opportunities across technical, operational and allied sectors. This is expected to provide a strong boost to local livelihoods while attracting skilled talent to the region.
To power the large-scale production of green ammonia, the project will depend on a strong renewable energy backbone. The energy requirements include around 7.5 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy capacity along with 1 GW of pumped hydro storage, ensuring reliable and sustainable power for continuous operations.
Highlighting the project’s significance, Nara Lokesh noted that this would be the first time in India’s history that green energy is being exported in the form of ammonia. He said the investment would not only strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s economy but also firmly place the state on the global green energy map.
The initiative is expected to position Andhra Pradesh as a leader in the green hydrogen and ammonia value chain, reinforcing India’s commitment to clean energy exports and climate-friendly industrial growth.
