Nitin Nabin Calls BJP Presidency a ‘Moment of Resolve’, Vows to Uphold Party Ideology and Nationalist
New Delhi, Jan 2026 : Newly elected Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President Nitin Nabin on Tuesday described his elevation to the party’s top organisational post as a “moment of resolve”, saying that he was not merely assuming a position but embracing the ideology, traditions and responsibilities of a nationalist movement that has shaped India’s political discourse for decades.
Nabin was elected as the BJP National President during the party’s organisational conclave, Sangathan Parv, held at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi. With his election, he has become the youngest leader to head the world’s largest political party, marking a generational shift while reinforcing continuity within the organisation.
Outgoing BJP National President J.P. Nadda, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari felicitated Nabin on the occasion. Senior party leaders, ministers, chief ministers and office bearers from across the country were present, underlining the broad consensus behind his unopposed election.
Addressing the gathering, Nabin expressed deep gratitude to the party leadership and workers, describing his journey as that of an “ordinary worker” entrusted with an extraordinary responsibility. “Today, above all else, I want to sincerely thank each one of you. You have allowed a simple party worker like me to reach this esteemed position. I am deeply grateful,” he said.
He reserved special appreciation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that generations of BJP workers had drawn inspiration from the Prime Minister’s relentless commitment to public service. “Prime Minister, we ordinary workers have always watched you work tirelessly for the nation. Your dedication has been a guiding light for all of us,” Nabin remarked.
Recalling an earlier programme in Anand, Gujarat, Nabin shared an anecdote from the Sadbhavana Mission event, where he observed the Prime Minister’s ability to connect emotionally with people. “That day, I understood that a person becomes truly great when they establish an emotional bond with the public,” he said, noting that leadership rooted in empathy strengthens democracy.
Nabin also paid tribute to former BJP National Presidents, including J.P. Nadda, Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari and Rajnath Singh, acknowledging their role in strengthening the party at different stages of its evolution. “Each of them has made an immense contribution in taking the BJP to where it stands today,” he said.
Emphasising the philosophical foundations of the party, Nabin said the BJP views politics not as a pursuit of power but as a form of service and sacrifice. “For us, politics is not indulgence but spiritual practice, not luxury and comfort but austerity. It is not authority; it is responsibility,” he asserted.
Calling his election a defining moment, Nabin said, “This day is a moment of resolve for me. I am not just taking over a post; I am accepting the ideology, traditions and the responsibility of a nationalist movement.” He reiterated the party’s guiding principle of “Nation First, Party Next, Self Last”, stating that this ethos would continue to shape his leadership.
The new BJP chief credited Prime Minister Modi for inspiring 140 crore Indians to align themselves with the vision of a Viksit Bharat. Referring to the abrogation of Article 370, Nabin said the decision had transformed the atmosphere in Jammu and Kashmir. “Today, the Tricolour flies proudly in every corner of Kashmir,” he said.
Nabin was elected unopposed by the BJP’s electoral college, comprising members of the party’s national and state councils. The process was conducted in line with the party constitution, which mandates a minimum of 15 years of party membership and support from at least 20 electoral college members from a state.
Political observers view Nabin’s elevation as a strategic move to infuse youthful energy into the BJP’s organisational structure while maintaining ideological continuity and institutional stability. As he begins his tenure, expectations remain high that he will steer the party through the evolving political landscape with discipline, inclusivity and a renewed focus on grassroots engagement.
