Davos; January 2026: As the Global Meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos under the theme “A Spirit of Dialogue” gains momentum, the opening day was important for India, as the Indian Leaders have demonstrated the nation’s traits, and the immense prospect the country possess.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw today, 21st January 2026 have said that while India is in constant touch with major world powers, the World Economic Forum is primarily a forum for sharing ideas rather than for formal group-to-group trade meetings.
On being asked if India will be having a meeting with the US delegation, Ashwini Vaishnaw said, “The format of Davos is a format where we generally do panels and bilateral. The trade meetings take place according to the country’s own schedules and negotiations. They are deeply engaged with all the major economies on practically all fronts at this point in time. This is not the forum in which we meet delegation to delegation”.
The progress of the Indian economy under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become a top subject of debate among world leaders in Switzerland. Union Minister shared that the Indian team is present at all major meetings to explain how the country is combining modern technology with fair growth for all citizens.
Union New and Renewable Energy Minister Prahlad Joshi today have met Panama’s Commerce and Industry Minister Julio Armando Molto Alain and Foreign Affairs Minister Javier Eduardo Martinez-Acha Vasquez on the sidelines of the World Martinez Acha Vasquez, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2026 in Davos. In a post on X, Joshi said that,
“the talks specifically focused on strengthening cooperation in the renewable energy sector, including clean energy solutions, sustainable technologies, and expanding investment partnerships to support the global energy transition. Had a constructive meeting with H.E. Mr Julio Armando Molto Alain, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Government of the Republic of Panama, and H.E. Javier Eduardo Martinez Acha Vasquez, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Panama, on the sidelines of #WEF2026 in Davos. Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in the Renewable Energy sector, including Clean Energy solutions, sustainable technologies, and expanding investment partnerships to support the global energy transition”.
Uttar Pradesh Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna, have hailed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with AM Green Group, the leading energy transition platform backed by the founders of Greenko Group, to build a one-gigawatt Artificial Intelligence (AI) computer hub in Greater Noida. Detailing the significance of the deal on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum 2026, UP minister Khanna said that the state aims to achieve six GW of energy capacity by 2030. AM Green will invest Rs 2.7 lakh crore to establish the data centre. The Union Minister have further reiterated,
“This is a very big achievement for Uttar Pradesh, for Northern India, and I believe it’s good news for the entire country that an MoU for one Gigawatt has been signed with AM Green today. This is remarkable in itself because our target is to achieve one gigawatt by 2030. Currently, there are 1.6 gigawatts in India, with the largest share in Maharashtra and half of that in Uttar Pradesh.”
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today morning (Indian Standard Time) has described the Davos summit as an important and effective platform for India to stay updated on global trends in innovation and technology. He explained that by participating in these international meetings, the state can learn about the latest developments in the world of business, which helps bring more investment and modern processes back to Maharashtra. Highlighting the learning opportunities at the forum, the Maharashtra Chief Minister said, “India’s
presence in Davos is being registered very effectively. The participation of ten different states reflects the spirit of cooperative and competitive federalism that Prime Minister Modi has instilled in us. We are all here representing ourselves under this spirit, and I believe Davos is essential for staying relevant in today’s geopolitics and connected economy. If you want to remain relevant in this connected economy, you have to come to Davos. It’s a place where businesses meet and where you learn about innovation, technology, and business processes. We also learn about how the world is changing, and importantly, one of the outcomes is that when businesses connect, there are benefits for us. Some investments also come in. As far as Maharashtra is concerned, this time we have focused on large-scale strategic collaborations.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced today that the state has emerged as the fastest-growing economy in India, with a 13% growth rate. Leading the first-ever delegation from the state to the World Economic Forum, the Chief Minister said that Assam is now ready to partner with global investors to build a modern future.
While highlighting the state’s new economic confidence, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “India is going to be the third largest economy under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Assam has become the fastest growing economy and grown 13% in the last 5 years”.
Earlier, the Assam Chief Minister highlighted the state’s efforts to prepare its workforce for an increasingly automated and AI-driven future, citing skill development and industry-aligned training as key focus areas. In a post on X, the Chief Minister said that Assam, with its young demographic profile, is redefining workforce training by embedding industry-friendly curricula through initiatives such as the Assam Skill Development University. He noted that the state is developing strong use cases to adapt to technological transformation, including hosting one of the world’s most digitally advanced manufacturing facilities.
“On Day 2 of the World Economic Forum, I had the privilege to share how Assam is preparing its workforce for an increasingly automated and AI-enabled environment. Given our young demography, Assam is rewriting the training playbook. The Assam Skill Development University, along with other initiatives, is embedding industry-friendly curricula and programmes at the heart of our efforts. Assam has some excellent use cases. For instance, our State hosts one of the most digitally advanced manufacturing sites globally”, CM Sarma’s ‘X’ post said.
Sarma has shared these insights on the second day of the World Economic Forum, where he engaged in a dialogue on future-ready workforces. The discussion featured an international panel that included Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, France’s Minister Delegate for European Affairs Benjamin Haddad, and World Economic Forum Managing Director Kiva Allgood.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Tuesday participated in the Delivering Sustainability at Scale program organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos. He shared the development, stating that he had shared his views on the possibilities of sustainable development. He asserted that Jharkhand’s vision on the matter is clear, which is not just to remain an exporter of minerals and natural resources, but to achieve value addition alongside sustainable development, job creation, and concrete changes in people’s lives.
“I had the opportunity to participate in the Delivering Sustainability at Scale program organised by CII in Davos. In the program, along with other speakers, I also shared my views on the possibilities of sustainable development. Jharkhand’s vision is clear, we do not want to remain just an exporter state of minerals and natural resources. Our goal is also to bring value addition along with sustainable development, job creation, and concrete changes in people’s lives”, Soren posted on X.
The Jharkhand CM stressed that he will make Jharkhand an exclusive and future ready state with all the opportunities related to tourism, green energy, and industry. “By responsibly advancing the opportunities present in the sectors of tourism, green energy, and industry, we want to make young Jharkhand an inclusive and future-ready state”, he added.
Earlier in the day, Hemant Soren informed that he will be participating in the inter-ministerial panel “Capital in Action: Scaling Energy Systems Through Policy, Finance & Regional Leadership” in Davos, Switzerland.
In a post on X, he said the panel will include high-profile participants, such as a former Slovakian finance minister and global business leaders, and will focus on policy, finance, and regional leadership to develop resilient energy systems. Jharkhand remains committed to contributing meaningfully to the global energy transition”, he added.
