Chennai, Jan 2026 : With only a few months remaining before the crucial Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, actor-turned-politician Vijay finds himself at a defining moment, balancing political ambition amid mounting legal and public challenges. As the founder and leader of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), Vijay is navigating a complex landscape marked by controversies, investigations and high public expectations, even as he sharpens his party’s electoral strategy.

In recent weeks, Vijay has been in the spotlight over multiple issues, including the controversy surrounding his upcoming film Jananayagan and a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe that has added to the pressure at a politically sensitive time. These developments have placed him under intense scrutiny, testing both his personal resolve and his political preparedness ahead of his party’s first major Assembly election.

For a relatively new political outfit seeking to establish itself across Tamil Nadu’s diverse constituencies, symbol recognition is seen as critical to voter recall and grassroots mobilisation.

According to sources familiar with the matter, there is growing optimism within TVK that the party may succeed in obtaining a common symbol. The application submitted by the party is currently under active consideration by the Election Commission of India. Insiders say TVK has provided all necessary documentation, data and numerical strength details in line with electoral norms, bolstering its case despite its status as an unrecognised party.

Sources further suggest that the Election Commission may take a decision even before the formal announcement of the Assembly election schedule. Such an early decision would be a significant boost for TVK, giving it additional time to popularise its symbol and integrate it into campaign messaging, outreach material and grassroots activities. Political observers note that early clarity on the symbol could offer a strategic edge to a party contesting a high-stakes election without the backing of established alliances.

It is learnt that TVK has submitted a list of ten preferred symbols for consideration. Among these, symbols such as the auto-rickshaw, cricket bat and whistle have reportedly generated enthusiasm among party workers. Cadres believe these symbols carry strong mass appeal and could strike an emotional chord with voters, particularly younger sections and first-time voters familiar with Vijay’s public image.
