Lucknow, January 2026 : Uttar Pradesh achieved a historic success in the rural drinking water system under the Jal Jeevan Mission by setting a new milestone. So far, 26,564 villages in the state have been certified as “Har Ghar Jal” by the Gram Panchayat.
At the same time, functional household tap connections have been provided to nearly 2.5 crore rural families. This achievement not only reflects an improvement in the quality of rural life, but is also considered a major step towards sustainable development and environmental protection.
Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, Peyajal Yojana has been rapidly expanded to villages across the state. At present, work is progressing rapidly in more than 97,000 villages. Through these schemes, the objective of delivering tap water to every rural household is being provided at a fast pace.

Under this initiative, more than 33,000 Gramin Pipe Peyajal Yojana have already been developed on solar energy, leading to a reduction in electricity expenditure.
Solar based drinking water schemes are resulting in a reduction of around 13 lakh metric tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions every year.
