Gorakhpur, September 2026 : Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath once again targeted the Samajwadi Party (SP) over women’s safety. He said, "Before 2017, the situation in the state had become such that the saying, ‘Dekho Sapai, Bitiya Ghabraai,’ had become common. Parents used to remain worried about their daughters’ education and safety. The goons of the then government had vitiated the atmosphere. In several districts, girls' education was under threat. SP miscreants used to harass them and forcibly abduct them."
The Chief Minister said there was an atmosphere of hooliganism, land grabbing, and lawlessness across the state. In contrast, Uttar Pradesh today is free from curfew, riots, fear, hooliganism and illegal encroachments. After 2017, when society and the government worked in the same direction, the results have become visible.
CM Yogi was addressing the inauguration ceremony of the newly constructed Government Women’s Shelter Home building near the Agriculture Department’s seed warehouse in Chargawan on Wednesday. The building, equipped with all necessary facilities and with a capacity of 100 women, was constructed for Rs 8 crore 5 lakh 42 thousand.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, the Chief Minister said, "Whether it is a daughter forced to leave home or a woman facing domestic violence, she will no longer have to wander from door to door for help. The 100-bed Government Women’s Shelter Home in Gorakhpur will become a source of support for such women. The government is continuously working to fulfill the vision of Viksit Bharat by ensuring respect and security for half the population and taking women forward on the path of self-reliance."
The Chief Minister stated, "The government stands with a daughter from her birth through her education, marriage, safety and self-reliance. Under the Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangala Yojana, the government provides Rs 25,000 in assistance to a girl from birth until graduation. An amount of Rs 1 lakh has been provided under the Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana."
He said that 1.60 crore children studying in schools under the Basic Education Council are being provided uniforms, bags, books, shoes, socks and sweaters. 1.10 crore families are being provided an annual pension of Rs 12,000, and 65 lakh poor people in the state have been provided houses under the Pradhan Mantri and Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana.
He added that selecting good people leads to better facilities. The government is providing assistance of Rs 4,000 per month to children who were rendered orphaned during the Corona period. The government has also provided laptops to these children to help them with their studies.
CM Yogi targeted the opposition, particularly the SP, over employment, saying, “You keep counting; we will keep distributing jobs. You will get tired counting, but we will not get tired of giving jobs to the youth of Uttar Pradesh.”
He stated, "More than 9.5 lakh youth have so far been provided government jobs under Mission Rozgar. New employment opportunities are being created in different sectors. More than 3 crore people have got employment through 96 lakh MSME units in the state. Many of these units are run by women. With more than 24,000 startups, the youth of Uttar Pradesh are now not only becoming job seekers but also job creators."
CM Yogi said that women are writing a new story of self-reliance as Lakhpati Didis, Drone Didis and Banking Correspondent Sakhis. The Nari Vandan Adhiniyam has also ensured the path for greater representation of women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.
Chief Minister Yogi stated, "Before 2017, encephalitis used to claim the lives of children in eastern Uttar Pradesh. Nearly 500 children used to die at BRD Medical College alone. Due to the government’s efforts, the number of deaths has now come down to zero."
He also mentioned the unprecedented changes in road, rail and air connectivity in Gorakhpur. He said that with improved road connectivity, the journey to Varanasi can now be completed in around two and a half hours.
CM Yogi said that whether it is a woman facing domestic violence or a daughter, sister or elderly woman separated from her family for any reason, this Shelter Home will provide them support.
Referring to an elderly woman staying at the Shelter Home, he said, "She is unable to speak, and there is no information about her home or address. The government becomes a source of support for such people and makes efforts to reunite them with their legal guardians."
The Chief Minister said the Women Welfare Department should ensure better management of the Shelter Home. On the occasion, the Chief Minister extended greetings on Vaman Jayanti, referred to Lord Vishnu’s Vaman incarnation and conveyed his greetings to those present.
MP Ravi Kishan Shukla said, "Where would a destitute daughter or sister go in the cold and how would she find shelter? It was with this thought that Chief Minister Yogi had got this Shelter Home constructed at a cost of more than Rs 8 crore."
He informed that Uttar Pradesh had taken a new turn after 2017. The rule of law has curbed the mafia and hooliganism. Earlier, there were incidents of land grabbing from the poor and extortion, whereas today the government stands with the poor and women. He also mentioned the government’s work regarding employment and public welfare schemes.
Welcoming Chief Minister Yogi at the program, Pipraich MLA Mahendrapal Singh said, "The government has ensured that public welfare schemes reach eligible beneficiaries. In eastern Uttar Pradesh, a large number of children used to lose their lives to encephalitis, but effective control has been achieved through the government’s efforts. The government is working with resolve to provide employment to youth and security to daughters. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi, Uttar Pradesh is moving ahead towards becoming an Uttam Pradesh after shedding its image of a BIMARU state."
At the program, laptops were provided to Akshita Gupta, Palak Chauhan, Deepika, Priyanshi Yadav, Umra Anjum, Ayushi Yadav, Sudhir Kumar, Priyanshu Yadav, Anees Kumar Singh and Rudra Pratap Ranjan under the Mukhyamantri Bal Seva (COVID) Yojana, implemented by the Women and Child Development Department. CM Yogi personally distributed the laptops to these beneficiaries.
On the occasion, Kushinagar MP Vijay Dubey, Mayor Dr Manglesh Srivastava, MLAs Fateh Bahadur Singh, Vipin Singh, Pradeep Shukla and Sarvan Nishad, Vice-Chairperson of the State Women’s Commission Charu Chaudhary, BJP Regional President Vinod Rai, District President Janardan Tiwari, Mahanagar President Ramesh Pratap Gupta and others were prominently present.
After inaugurating the Government Women’s Shelter Home building constructed by the Women Welfare Department by cutting the ribbon, the Chief Minister toured the building and took stock of the arrangements there. CM Yogi also met the women staying there and enquired about the facilities available to them.
He also inspected the boards displaying various schemes. During this, he directed officials to ensure arrangements so the women staying there do not face any inconvenience. CM Yogi planted saplings on the Shelter Home premises and conveyed the message of environmental conservation.
Before inaugurating the Government Women’s Shelter Home, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inspected the Observation Home under construction for juveniles. The Government Observation Home, with a capacity of 100 juveniles, is being constructed for Rs 14 crore 87 lakh.
