New Delhi, Sep 2026 : The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Tuesday welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision to quash FIRs registered against student protesters in Delhi, Bihar, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Assam and other parts of the country in connection with agitations held between July 20 and 25. The party said it could not allow the academic and professional futures of students to be affected because of their participation in the protests.
The CJP also announced that it had decided to withdraw its proposed September 5 protest march following assurances from the Union government and the Supreme Court’s intervention. The proposed march was to be held from India Gate to the new Police Headquarters in the national capital.
Addressing reporters, CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das described the resignation of former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on July 25 as a “very big victory” for the country’s youth. He recalled that the party had raised two key demands during a joint press conference with Union Ministers J.P. Nadda and Jitendra Singh on the same day.
According to Das, the demands included compensation for the families of students who died by suicide allegedly in connection with the NEET paper leak and withdrawal of FIRs registered against protesters, youth and students across the country. He said the party subsequently held discussions with a high-level government delegation to pursue the issues.
Das claimed that the CJP’s efforts were followed by notifications in several states assuring that cases registered against student protesters would be withdrawn and that no further action would be taken against them in connection with the demonstrations.
However, he said the party had continued to seek formal assurances from the Union government, particularly regarding compensation for the families of NEET-related victims and the withdrawal of FIRs registered by the Delhi Police and other central agencies.
“The youth have an entire future ahead of them, and we could not let that get affected due to FIRs and police action,” Das said, stressing that the issue had significant implications for students.
He further said the CJP had urged the government to provide an assurance before the Supreme Court that compensation would be paid to the affected families within 90 days. According to Das, the government gave the assurance before the court on Tuesday and agreed that the funds would be transferred directly into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries.
Das said the Supreme Court’s incorporation of the government’s assurance into its order had given the commitment judicial sanctity.
Against this backdrop, the CJP decided to call off its September 5 demonstration. Das said the party had planned the peaceful march to press the government on its demands but would now withdraw the programme following the latest developments.
“I want to declare that we are calling off our peaceful protest march scheduled for September 5 from India Gate to the new Police Headquarters because the government has accepted all our demands,” Das said.
The party’s decision marks a temporary end to its agitation over the FIRs and compensation issue, with the CJP maintaining that protecting the future of students remained its primary objective.
