Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, a native of Ujjain’s Abdalpura area, on Sunday set a unique example for the ongoing road-widening work being undertaken in the city for Simhastha 2028 by personally initiating the demolition of a portion of his ancestral home in Abdalpura. House No. 180 in Abdalpura has emerged as a significant example of the development and beautification works being undertaken in Ujjain.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav reached Abdalpura at 10 am on Sunday and formally inaugurated the road-widening work after performing a puja. He then personally used a pickaxe to initiate the demolition of his ancestral home to facilitate the road-widening work.
Abdalpura Emerges as a Symbol of Hindu-Muslim Unity
Abdalpura is one of the oldest settlements in Ujjain. The Khajur Wali Masjid stands at one end, while the Jiwajiganj Police Station is located at the other. Of the 272 houses situated along the stretch, most belong to Hindu, Muslim and Bohra families.
Residents from all communities are willingly joining the road-widening initiative and have come forward to remove portions of their homes themselves. The initiative is inspiring citizens to participate in Ujjain's development as several roads across the city are being widened.
Shri Kadar Bhai, a resident of the area, said road widening would fulfil a long-standing wish of the residents. It was earlier difficult for vehicles to pass through the road, but commuting would now become easier. He said that while the houses along the road may differ in size, the residents share a deep sense of community. People living on both sides of the road are willingly ready to provide land for widening, with everyone contributing to the initiative.
Shri Pawan Panchal, a neighbour of the Chief Minister’s ancestral home, said the widening would prove a boon for the area. Wider roads would increase the value of houses and shops, boost commercial activity and make daily commuting easier. On the opposite side of the road is the house of Chief Minister Dr. Yadav’s sister, Smt. Kalwati Yadav, Chairperson of Ujjain Municipal Corporation. Her house is also affected by the road-widening work.
Shri Narendra Jain, who runs a milk shop in the same row, said demolishing the Chief Minister’s and his family’s houses send a message that everyone is equal in Mahakal. “Whether ordinary or prominent, everyone is equal in Mahakal’s city,” he said, adding that people are participating collectively in the preparations for Simhastha and that houses are being removed along the same alignment and to the required extent.
Former councillor Shri Jagdish Panchal, another resident of the locality, said Chief Minister Dr. Yadav was working towards his vision of a developed Ujjain. The development would not only transform the city but also facilitate the movement and stay of millions of devotees expected to visit Ujjain during Simhastha.
Dedicated to Public Welfare
Giving the development and construction works for Simhastha 2028 the highest priority, Chief Minister Dr. Yadav has dedicated his ancestral residence and birthplace in Ujjain to public welfare. His commitment to the development of Ujjain and public welfare is being seen as an example of personal commitment to service and public interest.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said the people of Ujjain had set an exemplary precedent by participating in development works and voluntarily helping remove portions of their houses. Ujjain has a population of around eight lakh, while more than 40 crore people are expected to visit the city during Simhastha. He expressed gratitude to all those who had contributed to the preparations without discrimination or hesitation, including those who voluntarily set back even their places of worship. The Chief Minister said that this spirit reflected the exemplary character of Ujjain’s people and strengthened public trust in the government. Residents are voluntarily removing portions of their ancestral homes and assisting the administration in road widening for Simhastha preparations and city beautification. He appreciated their contribution.
CM Dr. Yadav Calls for Healthy and Active Lifestyle
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said a state-level marathon was organised by a private news channel on Sunday morning in Ujjain, the city of Baba Mahakal. He said morning walks and exercise are important for a healthy body and that the marathon was an inspirational initiative towards better health.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav congratulated all participants. He said he participated in the marathon at Dussehra Maidan and flagged it off. He also practised Yog with the participants and encouraged citizens to make regular Yog and exercise a part of their daily lives.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said the human body is a precious gift from the Almighty, containing many mysteries of life. Through Yog and introspection, we can better understand our body and life, he said. In Ujjain, the city of Mahakal, every breath reminds us of life and the presence of the Divine. Birth and death are eternal truths, and therefore, we should resolve to lead healthy, active and positive lives. He extended his greetings to all marathon participants.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that by the grace of the Almighty, we have come into existence as a microcosm of the universe based on the Shiv and Vishnu principles. Trees provide us oxygen and absorb carbon dioxide from us, reflecting our interconnectedness with nature. He called upon people to remain conscious of environmental conservation along with plantation.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said Pitru Paksha had begun and it was our responsibility to invoke the memory of our ancestors and express our heartfelt gratitude to them.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav recalled that when he first contested an election from Science College, he fought for the post of Joint Secretary, followed by the election for President, and subsequently contested several other elections. He said that throughout his journey, one principle had remained constant: keeping the future in mind, one should set an example through one’s conduct and actions.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is an excellent example before all of us in this regard. He said the Prime Minister remains completely above personal interests and gives special priority to all matters necessary for adherence to rules and laws and ensuring good governance. His public life offers many lessons for everyone, he added.
