Tourism Department and MCD to build 2,000 modern toilets, MCD to receive full funding from Chief Minister’s Development Fund

Mobile health check-up facilities for construction workers, beautification of Delhi’s entry points underway
New Delhi, September 2026 : Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta on Monday inaugurated a newly built modern toilet block at Labour Chowk in Singalpur village, in the Shalimar Bagh Assembly constituency. She said the Delhi government was committed to providing better and modern public amenities to residents and would build 2,000 modern toilets across Delhi within the next year. The Chief Minister said the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the Tourism Department would build 1,000 toilets each. The entire cost of the 1,000 toilets to be built by the MCD would be provided through the Chief Minister’s Development Fund (CMDF).
First toilet block built in three months
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the toilet block at Singalpur village had been completed in about three months. Despite rain and strong winds, officials and the departments concerned completed the project on time. She said the Tourism Department would build 500 more toilets in the next six months, followed by another 500 in the subsequent six months. This would bring 1,000 additional modern toilets to Delhi within a year. The Chief Minister congratulated the MCD, the officials concerned, local councillors and everyone else involved in the construction of the public convenience complex. She said the facility would benefit thousands of people. She also stressed that better coordination between the Delhi government and the MCD was essential for the timely development of such facilities.
Focus on toilets, water and sewerage facilities in slum clusters
CM Rekha Gupta said the Delhi government was constructing toilets in the city’s slum clusters. Work was also being carried out to improve water supply, lay sewer lines, install new water pipelines and provide electricity connections. She said new CCTV cameras were being installed across Delhi, roads were being widened and resurfacing work was under way. Over the past one-and-a-half years, the Delhi government had undertaken several important development projects in the capital, she added.
Unity Mall to come up at Pitampura Delhi Haat
The Chief Minister made another important announcement for the Shalimar Bagh area, saying that a grand Unity Mall would be developed at the site of the old Delhi Haat in Pitampura. She said the mall would feature emporiums from all states of the country, along with food facilities offering cuisines from different regions. People would be able to visit with their families and enjoy dishes from across the country. The chief minister said the Delhi Haat, built several years ago, would be redeveloped in a new format as a major gift to the Shalimar Bagh Assembly constituency. She thanked Minister Kapil Mishra for the initiative.
Delhi’s entry points being beautified
CM Rekha Gupta said entry gates were being constructed and beautified along various routes leading into Delhi. The Tourism Department was developing impressive gateways at different entry points to the city. She said the initiative would help improve Delhi’s identity and image, and congratulated the Tourism Department for the work.
New registration and health check-up arrangements for construction workers
The Chief Minister said registration was essential to ensure that construction workers in Delhi could benefit from government schemes. She said the Labour Department was beginning the process of fresh registration of construction workers across the city. Special vans were also being prepared to conduct health check-ups for workers. These vans would visit construction sites and other workplaces where the workers were engaged, she said. The government’s objective was to ensure that construction workers and all other eligible people could access government schemes and receive the healthcare facilities they needed.
PM Modi’s years of public service
In her address, Ms Gupta spoke about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public life and contribution to the country. She said the Prime Minister had devoted years of his life to serving the nation and that his work and commitment were a source of inspiration. Drawing inspiration from the Prime Minister’s approach to public service, the Delhi government was also undertaking new development initiatives, she said.
The Chief Minister appealed to people to light an ‘Aashirwad ka Diya’, a lamp of blessing, for the Prime Minister at their homes on September 17, his birthday. She said people should light lamps everywhere, whether in slum settlements, bungalows or social service centres, wishing the Prime Minister good health, a long life and continued service to the nation. She also urged people to remember Lord Ganesha on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi and pray for happiness and prosperity in everyone’s lives, as well as for the successful completion of every undertaking without obstacles.
CM inspects development works related to Munak Canal
The Chief Minister also inspected development works related to the Munak Canal in the Shalimar Bagh Assembly constituency. She said various departments and the MCD were working in close coordination to speed up development projects in Delhi. This coordination was helping strengthen public amenities and infrastructure across the city, she added.
