Several Initiatives Inaugurated at Film City
Mumbai, Sept 2026 : Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari, popularly known as Film City, is not merely a location for film shooting but the nucleus of Maharashtra’s art and culture, Cultural Affairs Minister Adv. Ashish Shelar said.
He said the government was working to provide better facilities for artists, new opportunities for technicians and modern platforms for the younger generation.
He was speaking at an event organised under the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’, an initiative of the Maharashtra Film, Theatre and Cultural Development Corporation, during which several public service and cultural initiatives were inaugurated.
Film City Managing Director Swati Mhase-Patil, Joint Managing Director Prashant Sajanikar, National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) Director Nidhi Choudhary, along with a large number of artists, technicians and singers from the film industry, were present.
Studio No. 1 Inaugurated
Studio No. 1 at Film City was inaugurated by Cultural Affairs Minister Adv. Ashish Shelar.
Shelar said that improved infrastructure would provide artists, producers and technicians with better facilities for shooting and production. He added that the government was working towards developing Film City as a modern production centre.
Two New Ambulances and Free Bus Service
In the presence of Minister Shelar, two new ambulances were made available through Doctors For You for the health and safety of artists, technicians and employees.
With the addition of the two new ambulances to the existing one, Film City now has three ambulances available for emergency services.
A free bus service has also been introduced for technicians, employees of production houses and other personnel associated with Film City.
Advanced Fire Safety System Commissioned
An advanced firefighting system has been commissioned to further strengthen fire safety at Film City.
The system has been developed in three phases, with each phase equipped with a 15-lakh-litre-capacity firefighting water storage tank and an independent fire pump system.
The new infrastructure has strengthened fire safety arrangements covering 15 studios, the administrative building, helipad, Khandala Ghat and the residential premises of the Managing Director.
Film City has also achieved an important milestone by becoming the first government property of the Maharashtra government to receive the final Fire Safety No-Objection Certificate.
A newly constructed committee room was also inaugurated by Minister Shelar.
Opportunities for Youth Through Digital Platforms
Minister Shelar said a reel competition and reel business workshop had been organised to provide the younger generation with opportunities to showcase their artistic talent through digital platforms.
He said Maharashtra's devotional and musical traditions were being connected with modern media through the ‘Shri Mahaganpati Stotra’ music video and ‘Abhang Repost’ initiatives.
Special Photography Exhibition on Bollywood
A special photography exhibition titled ‘Lens and Legacy: Bollywood’s Visual Journey’, organised jointly by the National Gallery of Modern Art and Film City, was inaugurated by Minister Shelar.
The exhibition showcases the history and evolution of Indian cinema through rare photographs, posters and archival material.
Call for People’s Participation in ‘Seva Sankalp’
Speaking on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, Cultural Affairs Minister Adv. Ashish Shelar said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had called upon people to undertake a ‘Seva Sankalp’, or pledge of service, instead of merely celebrating his birthday.
Accordingly, various initiatives are being undertaken for public service, employee welfare and the development of the cultural sector, he said.
Shelar also appealed to citizens to cultivate a spirit of service and contribute towards the development of the country.
He urged everyone to make a firm resolve to contribute in their own capacity towards fulfilling the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India).
