Party chief asks regional coordinators to identify credible candidates, strengthen grassroots organisation and prepare contingency plans
Tadepalli (Andhra Pradesh), Sept 2026 : Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has directed the party’s Regional Coordinators to accelerate preparations for the upcoming local body elections, with a focus on identifying strong candidates and strengthening the organisation at the grassroots level.
Jagan held a meeting with the party’s Regional Coordinators at the YSRCP Central Office in Tadepalli and reviewed the organisation’s preparedness for the elections. He asked leaders to begin the candidate-selection process immediately and identify candidates who are credible, capable and have strong local support.
According to a party statement, Jagan stressed that candidate selection should not be viewed only from the perspective of the local elections but should also help strengthen the party organisation for future electoral contests. Regional Coordinators were asked to consult leaders at different levels, gather the views of party functionaries and conduct multiple rounds of discussions before finalising candidates.
Jagan also called for greater coordination among various levels of the party organisation. He asked the Regional Coordinators to continuously monitor local units, strengthen leadership and encourage greater coordination between leaders and cadres.
The YSRCP chief further directed party leaders to take the organisation’s political and governance narrative directly to voters. He asked them to explain what the party described as differences between the previous YSRCP government and the present Telugu Desam Party-led administration.
Jagan asked party workers to reach out to households and highlight welfare and governance initiatives implemented during the YSRCP government, while also raising issues that the party believes remain unaddressed under the current administration.
The former Chief Minister also cautioned party leaders to prepare for what he described as possible challenges during the local body elections. He alleged that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s government could use police power and other means to influence the electoral process and asked the party leadership to prepare alternatives and contingency plans at every level. These were Jagan’s political allegations, and the statement did not provide independent evidence for them.
The Regional Coordinators were instructed to closely supervise local units, resolve internal differences through consultations and strengthen booth-level and grassroots leadership. Jagan emphasised that maintaining organisational unity would be important throughout the election process.
The meeting was attended by senior YSRCP leaders and Regional Coordinators, including Botsa Satyanarayana, Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy, Y.V. Subba Reddy, Alla Ayodhya Rami Reddy, P.V. Midhun Reddy, Kurasala Kannababu, Gudivada Amarnath and Budi Mutyala Naidu.
The YSRCP’s preparations come as Andhra Pradesh’s local bodies enter a transition period, with the terms of some existing local bodies ending around September 2026.
