Series adopts a bottom-up storytelling model, placing local food, farmers, and community traditions at the forefront of regional promotion.
The trailer of documentary series “The Enchanting 8: A Culinary Journey Through the Northeast” was officially launched by Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region and Communications, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, in New Delhi today . The launch event, was organized by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER). The event was graced by MoS MDoNER Dr. Sukanta Majumdar and attended by senior officials of MDoNER and members of the production team.
The documentary series brings the rich culinary traditions, diverse communities, and vibrant cultural heritage of the eight states of Northeast India into sharp national focus.
Undertaken with the support of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) and the North Eastern Council (NEC), the series has been implemented through the North Eastern Region Community Resource Management Society (NERCRMS) and produced by Urban Media Productions in association with Filandering Forker Media. It marks a significant cultural outreach effort by MDoNER to introduce the Northeast to a wider audience through the experiences and authentic stories of the people of the region.
The documentary series takes viewers on a food-led journey across all eight Northeastern States, exploring the region through its cuisine, communities, and people. The series explores the culinary traditions of the NER rooted in locally available resources, intertwined with interesting facts.
The production of the series involved intraction with local communities and food producers, tracing native ingredients from their origins to kitchens and eventually to the dining table. Through these encounters, the documentary captures not only the food itself, but also the stories, traditions, and people connected to it.
The tariler turns the spotlight on northeastern states , looking at the region through its food and the people who prepare and share it. Rather than presenting the NER through a single cuisine, the series reflects its diverse communities and distinct geographies, highlighting the localized ingredients, indigenous knowledge, and everyday practices behind a meal, with local voices carrying the narrative.
While food remains at the center of the series, the journey also brings viewers closer to the arts, culture, and landscapes of the Northeast, presenting these elements as part of the broader context in which the region’s culinary traditions have evolved.
