Performs traditional worship of Karam Dev at her native village Beerpur, prays for the happiness and prosperity of the people
Raipur, Sept 2026: Women and Child Development and Social Welfare Minister Laxmi Rajwade participated in the traditional Karma Puja, a festival closely associated with nature and the folk culture of Chhattisgarh, at her native village Beerpur.
The minister joined villagers in performing the traditional rituals and offering prayers to Karam Dev. She prayed for peace, happiness, well-being and prosperity across the state and expressed her faith in the preservation of nature, culture and Chhattisgarh's rich folk traditions.
Karma Puja is a traditional festival deeply rooted in the folk culture and social life of Chhattisgarh. It is regarded as a symbol of gratitude towards nature, community unity and popular faith. During the festival, villagers worship Karam Dev and pray for prosperity, a good harvest and the well-being of their families and communities.
The celebrations brought the village alive with traditional songs, music, dance and customs, creating an atmosphere of joy and enthusiasm.
Rajwade said Chhattisgarh's identity is closely associated with its rich folk culture, traditions, festivals and celebrations connected with nature. Folk festivals such as Karma Puja strengthen people's connection with their roots and cultural heritage.
“These traditions embody respect for nature, mutual brotherhood and a spirit of collective participation,” she said.
The minister said folk culture and traditions were not merely a means of celebration but an invaluable part of the state's social and cultural identity. Preserving these traditions and introducing the younger generation to their significance was the collective responsibility of society, she added.
Rajwade also urged children and young people to remain connected with their culture, folk arts and traditional festivals and actively participate in preserving the state's cultural heritage.
On the occasion, villagers warmly welcomed the minister. Rajwade interacted with residents and extended her greetings on Karma Puja. She also wished for continued development and prosperity in the region and across Chhattisgarh, as well as happiness and well-being for all families.
