Shrimad Bhagwat Katha begins to mark the sacred memory of Yugpurush Brahmalin Mahant Digvijaynath Ji Maharaj and Rashtrasant Brahmalin Mahant Avaidyanath Ji Maharaj
Humanity across the world looks towards the land of India for lasting peace: CM
Gorakhpur, September 2026 : Gorakshpeethadhishwar and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated, "In ordinary life, a person is unable to determine what is truth and what is untruth. In today's times, social media platforms have introduced a new space between truth and untruth: the half-truth, which is never the truth. In such circumstances, humanity across the world is suffering from depression and it faces a challenge."
CM Yogi expressed his views on Wednesday afternoon at the inauguration of Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapuran Katha Gyan Yagya, organized as part of the program commemorating the 57th death anniversary of Yugpurush Brahmalin Mahant Digvijaynath Ji Maharaj and the 12th death anniversary of Rashtrasant Brahmalin Mahant Avaidyanath Ji Maharaj at Gorakhnath Temple.
After worshipping the Vyaspeeth in Digvijaynath Smriti Bhawan auditorium, he addressed the devotees present. He stated, "Today, no matter how far science has advanced, humanity across the world looks only towards the land of India for lasting peace in life. The tradition of sacred narratives on the land of India guides individuals to make their path easier amid difficult challenges. The tradition of reciting and listening to sacred narratives also provides an opportunity to understand a heritage spanning thousands of years."
CM said, "When there is harmony between conduct and thought in a person's life, it becomes effective. When a person moves in one direction through manasa, vacha, karmana, they attain success. When thought, speech, and action are not in harmony, confusion arises. When confusion develops over what should be done and what should not be done, a 'neither here nor there' situation arises. The story of Shrimad Bhagwat removes this very confusion of human beings."
Welcoming Katha Vyas Malookpeethadhishwar Shri Rajendradass Ji Maharaj to Gorakshpeeth, CM said, "The tradition of reciting and listening to Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapuran is 5,000 years old. Through this Katha, devotees of India receive inspiration for knowledge, devotion and selfless action. This Katha is extremely important for understanding the purpose and mysteries of life. Five thousand years ago, Shukdev Ji narrated this Katha to King Parikshit and a long period has passed since then. Sanatan culture has faced numerous challenges, including both favorable and unfavorable circumstances. Even amid stories of rise and decline, this Katha has remained alive in all our memories. This Katha, while making us realize the reality of life, paves the way for liberation from ignorance."
Following the CM's address, Katha Vyas, who was seated on the Vyaspeeth, Malookpeethadhishwar Shrimad Jagadguru Dwaracharya Agrapeethadhishwar Swami Shri Rajendradass Ji Maharaj, who had arrived from Vrindavan, narrated the Shrimad Bhagwat Katha to the devotees. The Katha will be narrated daily from 3 pm to 6 pm. It will conclude on September 29.
Before the commencement of the Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapuran Katha Gyan Yajna, a procession of Mahapuran was taken out under the leadership of Gorakshpeethadhishwar Yogi Adityanath from the main temple to the Katha venue, Digvijaynath Smriti Bhawan auditorium, amid the reverberation of conch sounds and Vedic chanting by students trained in Vedic recitation. Upon the procession reaching the Katha venue, the Akhand Jyoti was established. After consecrating the sacred scripture and the Katha Vyas taking his seat, CM Yogi Adityanath and the other yajmans worshipped the Vyaspeeth and the Katha Vyas.
On the occasion, Jagadguru Swami Sugriv Kiladhish Ayodhya's Vishwesh Prapannacharya, Jagadguru Raghavacharya of Ramlala Sadan Ayodhya, Swami Shridharacharya, Mahant Narayan Giri, Avadhesh Das, Ramlakhan Das, Raju Das, Ramanand Das, Balak Das and Jaibaksh Das, along with several other saints, yajmans and a large number of devotees, were present.
