New Delhi, Aug 2026 : Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd (TMPV) on Friday announced a price increase of up to Rs 25,000 across its passenger vehicle range, covering both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicle models. The revised prices will come into effect from September 1, 2026.
The company said the exact increase will differ depending on the model and variant. The price hike is intended to partially offset the impact of rising input costs and continued inflationary pressures affecting the automobile industry.
Tata Motors said it continues to absorb a significant portion of the increase in costs, indicating that the company is attempting to balance rising expenses with affordability for customers.
The latest announcement comes amid a broader trend of automobile manufacturers increasing vehicle prices in response to higher production and operating costs.
Hyundai Motor India had earlier this month announced a price increase of up to 1 per cent across its vehicle portfolio, effective August. The company attributed the move to higher input and commodity costs, increased operating expenses and continuing geopolitical and macroeconomic uncertainties.
Maruti Suzuki has also implemented price increases across its Arena and Nexa product ranges from August. Its latest revision involved increases ranging from Rs 2,500 to Rs 30,000, depending on the model and variant.
The successive price hikes reflect continuing cost pressures across the automobile sector. Manufacturers have been attempting to pass on a portion of higher expenses to consumers while simultaneously using cost optimisation measures to limit the impact.
Tata Motors is making the price revision at a time when its financial performance has also come under pressure. During the first quarter of financial year 2026-27 (Q1FY27), TMPV reported a 79 per cent decline in net profit to Rs 859 crore, compared with Rs 4,003 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year.
The company's profit after tax (PAT) also declined sharply, falling 85 per cent on a quarter-on-quarter basis.
Meanwhile, Tata Motors' shares traded largely flat on Friday. The stock was quoted at Rs 320.50 on the BSE during morning trade, registering a marginal gain of 0.17 per cent.
According to exchange data, the company's shares have touched a 52-week high of Rs 457.04 and a 52-week low of Rs 294.15.
Over the past year, the stock has declined by more than 5 per cent, while its year-to-date decline has been close to 9 per cent.
The September 1 price revision will apply across Tata Motors' passenger vehicle portfolio, with customers expected to see different increases depending on the vehicle and variant selected.
