Keir Starmer Appointed UK Prime Minister by King Charles III.
In a historic moment at Buckingham Palace, King Charles III officially appointed Labour leader Keir Starmer as the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom on Friday. The appointment follows a sweeping electoral victory for Starmer’s party.
A photograph released by the palace captures the moment the monarch shakes hands with Starmer, symbolizing the formal transition of power. Earlier in the day, King Charles accepted the resignation of outgoing Conservative leader Rishi Sunak.
“The King received in Audience The Right Honourable Sir Keir Starmer MP today and requested him to form a new Administration,” read an official statement from the palace.
Following tradition, Sir Keir accepted the King’s request and performed the customary gesture of kissing hands upon his appointment as Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury.
