Fines of ₹1.64 Crore for Illegal Storage on Government Land
Raipur : In a significant move to curb the illegal excavation, transportation, and storage of sand minerals, the Mineral Department carried out a major enforcement operation on the instructions of Collector Mr. Vinay Kumar Langeh.
On June 15, a joint team conducted a raid in Barbaspur village under the Mahasamund development block, where illegal sand stockpiles were seized in the presence of the village sarpanch, kotwar, and local residents. During the inspection, illegal sand storage was found on private land owned by 43 individuals and at 14 locations on government land.
As a result:
- A monetary penalty of over ₹54 lakh was imposed on the 43 private landowners.
- A fine of ₹1.64 crore (₹1,64,25,000) was levied for illegal sand storage on government land.
The action underscores the district administration’s strict stance on unauthorized sand mining and reflects the Mineral Department’s continued efforts to enforce mining regulations.
