Google AI Data Center Project Launched in Visakhapatnam, Set to Transform Andhra Pradesh’s Tech Landscape

Visakhapatnam, April 2026 : In a landmark development for Andhra Pradesh’s digital future, the foundation stone for a massive AI-driven data centre project by Google was laid on Monday at Tarluwada in Visakhapatnam district. The ceremony was led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu along with Minister Nara Lokesh, marking a significant step toward positioning the state as a major technology hub.

The ambitious project, with an estimated investment of $15 billion, involves the development of high-capacity data centres across three locations in Visakhapatnam and Anakapalle districts. These facilities are expected to collectively deliver more than one gigawatt of computing capacity, placing the region among India’s leading digital infrastructure hubs.

The state government has allocated substantial land parcels for the project—266.6 acres in Tarluwada, 160 acres in Adivivaram, and 174.80 acres in Rambilli in Anakapalle district. The project is targeted for completion by 2028 and is expected to significantly enhance the region’s technological and economic profile.

The initiative is part of the broader Google Cloud India AI Hub, which aims to strengthen artificial intelligence capabilities and digital infrastructure in the country. The event also coincided with an AI Conclave, attended by Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and other key officials, underlining the national importance of the project.

The data centre development is being executed in collaboration with AdaniConneX and Nxtra by Airtel, reflecting a strong public-private partnership aimed at accelerating innovation and attracting global technology investments.

Speaking at the event, Jeet Adani described the occasion as a defining moment for the region. He noted that the project represents the convergence of energy, data, and connectivity, which will power the next phase of India’s growth.

The establishment of these advanced data centres is expected to elevate Visakhapatnam’s status, placing it alongside major IT hubs such as Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Chennai. It is also likely to generate employment, boost ancillary industries, and strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s position in the global digital economy.

With this mega investment, the state government is signalling its intent to emerge as a key player in the AI and cloud computing space, paving the way for long-term technological and economic growth.
