Chief Minister Rekha Gupta Feeds Green Fodder to Cows with Affection at Kishanganj Gaushala Premises
New Delhi, April 2026 : Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta on Wednesday announced a series of key measures aimed at cattle protection and the development of gaushalas in the capital. She said 13 new gaushalas proposed across Delhi will be developed on a ‘zero-waste model’. Highlighting existing challenges, the Chief Minister said several gaushalas are currently operating in limited spaces while accommodating a large number of cattle, adversely affecting their health. To address this, the government aims to ensure adequate space and a natural environment for cows. She also assured that until the new gaushalas are constructed and the relocation process is completed, the government will continue to provide veterinary services and other essential facilities at existing shelters.
The announcement was made during the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony at a newly constructed Ram temple within the gaushala premises operated by the Delhi Pinjrapole Society in Kishanganj. The event was attended by Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law and Justice Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, North West Delhi MP Shri Yogender Chandolia, Delhi Assembly Speaker Shri Vijender Gupta, Model Town MLA Shri Ashok Goel and other dignitaries.
During the visit, the Chief Minister fed green fodder to the cows at the gaushala and said that the service and care of cows is not merely a tradition but also a cultural and spiritual responsibility of society, calling for collective efforts in this direction. She added that the Delhi government is working towards establishing at least one new gaushala in every district, with locations already identified. These gaushalas will be developed on a modern model, with facilities such as biogas plants, veterinary hospitals, solar plants and zero-waste management systems.
Emphasising environmental sustainability and cleanliness, CM Rekha Gupta said biogas plants are being set up for the scientific disposal of cow dung generated daily in the city. The government has set a target to install six such plants over the next two years, which will not only improve sanitation but also generate energy. Additionally, ₹100 crore has been approved for the redevelopment of dairy colonies. She further said that the government is working on a plan to link gaushalas with Delhi’s Ridge and forest areas, allowing cattle to live and move in a more natural environment.
The Chief Minister also lauded the contribution of gaushala operators and social workers, describing their work as a sacred and divine responsibility. She said that upon assuming office, the development of gaushalas was prioritised and a long-pending grant-in-aid was released within a week. Issues related to land lease renewals and electricity and water supply were also resolved on priority. The Chief Minister added that nearly ₹24 crore for the current year has already been released ahead of schedule to ensure that service activities are not disrupted. She expressed confidence that coordinated efforts by the government and society will give a new and stronger direction to cattle protection in Delhi.
