Dilip Ghosh Slams TMC Amid Falta Repoll Row, Says Party ‘Has No Chance of Winning’
New Delhi, May 2026 : Amid rising political tensions over the controversial polling in West Bengal’s Falta Assembly constituency, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Dilip Ghosh on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), asserting that the ruling party has “no possibility” of winning and is resorting to tactics aimed at boosting the morale of its cadre.
Reacting to recent developments, Ghosh alleged that the TMC’s actions were politically motivated. “There is no possibility of TMC winning. They are doing all this to give mental support to their workers,” he said, suggesting that the party is attempting to influence the narrative ahead of the repoll.
He further accused the ruling party of a long history of voter suppression and intimidation in the state. According to Ghosh, voters in several areas have faced systematic препятствия in exercising their democratic rights. “For many years, people were not able to vote. On the first day of the elections, voter cards used to be snatched away at night,” he claimed. He added that even now, people are coming forward alleging that they are being stopped from voting, threatened, and denied their rights.
The controversy comes in the wake of a major decision by the Election Commission of India (ECI), which ordered a complete repoll in the Falta Assembly constituency. The Commission cited “severe electoral offences” and a “subversion of the democratic process” during the second phase of polling held on April 29.
According to the ECI, fresh polling will be conducted across all 285 polling stations, including auxiliary booths, on May 21 between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. The counting of votes for Falta has been scheduled for May 24, separately from the rest of the constituencies in the state, where counting will take place on May 4 following the two-phase elections held on April 23 and April 29.
In addition to Falta, the poll body also ordered repolling in 15 polling booths across the Diamond Harbour and Magrahat Paschim constituencies, based on reports submitted by returning officers and election observers highlighting irregularities.
The developments have intensified the political battle in West Bengal, with both the BJP and TMC trading accusations over the conduct of elections. As the state prepares for the repoll and subsequent counting, the focus remains firmly on ensuring a free, fair, and transparent electoral process.
