Sunil Narine Reaches 200 IPL Wickets, Leads KKR’s Charge Against SRH

Hyderabad, May 2026 : Veteran all-rounder Sunil Narine etched his name deeper into Indian Premier League history by becoming only the third bowler to claim 200 wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The milestone came during a crucial spell that helped the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bowl out the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for 165 in 19 overs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday.

A cornerstone of KKR since his debut in 2012, Narine also became the first player in IPL history to reach the 200-wicket milestone with a single franchise, underlining his remarkable consistency and longevity. He is also the first overseas bowler to achieve this feat in the tournament.

Narine’s landmark moment came with the key dismissal of Ishan Kishan, who was anchoring SRH’s innings after a blistering start. The mystery spinner finished with figures of 2/31, playing a vital role in halting the hosts’ momentum.

Earlier, SRH had raced out of the blocks after being put in to bat, with openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma dominating the powerplay. Head led the charge with a quickfire 61 off 28 balls, while Kishan contributed a steady 42, guiding SRH to 71/1 in six overs and putting KKR under early pressure.

However, KKR staged a strong comeback through their spin attack. Varun Chakaravarthy led the turnaround with an impressive 3/36, triggering a middle-order collapse. Narine complemented him effectively, maintaining tight lines and picking up crucial wickets at key moments as SRH lost wickets in quick succession.

Support from the pace and all-round unit further strengthened KKR’s effort. Kartik Tyagi chipped in with two wickets, while Cameron Green, Vaibhav Arora, and Anukul Roy contributed with one wicket each to wrap up the innings inside 19 overs.

Narine’s contribution to KKR over the years has been immense. He played a pivotal role in the franchise’s title-winning campaigns in 2012, 2014, and 2024, consistently delivering match-winning performances with both ball and bat. His individual brilliance has also been recognised with accolades such as the Most Valuable Player award in 2012 and 2018, along with the Purple Cap in 2012.

This latest achievement further cements Sunil Narine’s legacy as one of the IPL’s most influential and dependable bowlers, having accomplished the historic 200-wicket milestone entirely in KKR colours.
