IPL 2026: Akeal Hosein Credits Smart Bowling, Team Communication for CSK’s Dominant Win Over Delhi Capitals

New Delhi, May 2026 : Chennai Super Kings spinner Akeal Hosein has highlighted the importance of quick pitch assessment and strong on-field communication in his team’s convincing eight-wicket victory over Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League 2026 clash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday.

Speaking after the match, Hosein revealed that the surface behaved very differently from initial expectations. While both teams anticipated a high-scoring encounter, the pitch turned out to be slow and low, favouring bowlers who adapted quickly.

“Both teams looked at the pitch and thought it would be a belter. Thankfully, we bowled first and realised early that it was slower and lower than expected,” Hosein said in a team video shared on social media.

CSK’s bowlers made the most of these conditions with disciplined execution. Hosein delivered an economical spell of 1/19, while fellow spinner Noor Ahmad impressed with figures of 2/22, helping restrict Delhi to 155/7 in their allotted overs.

The left-arm spinner stressed that sharing real-time insights among bowlers was key to their success. “It’s about passing on information quickly and making things as difficult as possible for the batters. We focused on bowling straight and maintaining a good length. Short deliveries didn’t work on this surface,” he explained.

Hosein also spoke about the responsibility of opening the bowling in the powerplay, where early reading of the pitch becomes crucial. “When you bowl the first over, you have to assess conditions immediately and communicate that to your teammates so they can adjust accordingly,” he noted.

He credited his interaction with Noor Ahmad as a defining moment during the innings. A brief discussion on bowling lengths resulted in immediate success, with Noor picking up a wicket soon after. “That communication really helped. It’s great to have that understanding and see it translate into results,” Hosein added.

In reply, CSK comfortably chased down the target of 156, thanks to a brilliant unbeaten knock from Sanju Samson. The right-hander scored 87 off 52 balls and anchored the innings with maturity. He was well supported by young batter Kartik Sharma, who contributed an unbeaten 41. The duo stitched together a match-winning 114-run partnership, sealing victory with 15 balls to spare.

Hosein praised Samson’s calm approach under pressure, noting that his presence kept the dressing room composed throughout the chase. “Sanju paced the innings perfectly. He ensured we had wickets in hand and guided the youngster brilliantly,” he said.

With this win, CSK remain in sixth position on the points table but have moved closer to the playoff race. The team now has ten points and will look to build momentum when they face Lucknow Super Giants in their next match on May 10.
