Immediate Relief Provided to Families of Villagers Killed in Elephant Attack

Compensation Distributed by Surajpur District Administration Following Initiative of Minister Lakshmi Rajwade

Raipur, May 2026 : Acting on the instructions of Women and Child Development and Social Welfare Minister Mrs. Lakshmi Rajwade, the district administration and Forest Department promptly distributed compensation to the families of victims who lost their lives in an elephant attack in Kalyanpur village of Surajpur district.

Expressing deep sorrow over the incident, Minister Rajwade had directed officials to ensure that financial assistance reached the affected families without any delay.

Following the death of two villagers from Kalyanpur in an elephant attack, the Forest and Climate Change Department (Surajpur Division) initiated immediate action under the financial year 2026-27.

According to departmental records, compensation amounts were sanctioned and disbursed to both affected families. Beneficiary Mrs. Kanti Bhoi received Rs 5.50 lakh directly into her bank account through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. Similarly, Mrs. Rajeshwari Singh Shyam was also provided Rs 5.50 lakh through DBT in her bank account.

In addition, Rs 50,000 each was transferred through DBT to the Divisional Forest Officer, Surajpur, for related assistance and administrative purposes.

Minister Lakshmi Rajwade stated that ensuring the safety of the people and standing with them during times of crisis remains a top priority of the government committed to good governance.

She further said that the administration remains alert and proactive in reducing incidents of human-elephant conflict and assured that every possible assistance would be extended to affected families.

The swift action by the administration has provided much-needed financial support to the bereaved families. Public representatives and local villagers have expressed gratitude to Minister Lakshmi Rajwade for ensuring timely relief and support to the victims’ families.
