Tamil Nadu Government Reshuffles Senior IAS Officers Across Key Departments
Chennai, May 2026 : The Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday carried out a major bureaucratic reshuffle involving several senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers across important departments, including Finance, Revenue Administration, Tourism, and the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC).
The transfer and posting orders were issued by Chief Secretary M. Sai Kumar in the name of the Governor as part of the administrative restructuring being undertaken by the newly formed Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)-led government headed by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.
According to the official notification, senior IAS officer N. Muruganandam, who recently returned from leave, has been appointed as the Additional Chief Secretary and Commissioner of Revenue Administration and Disaster Management. He replaces P. Amudha, who had been holding additional charge of the department.
In another important change, M.A. Siddique, who was serving as Additional Chief Secretary and Managing Director of Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), has been transferred and appointed as Additional Chief Secretary in the Finance Department. He succeeds T. Udhayachandran in one of the most significant administrative portfolios in the state government.
The reshuffle also brought changes to the Tourism and Cultural Affairs departments. Dr S. Swarna, who was serving as Principal Secretary and State Project Director of the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), has now been appointed as Principal Secretary of the Tourism, Culture and Religious Endowments Department.
She replaces Dr K. Manivasan, who had been handling additional charge of the department.
In a significant posting linked to the state-run liquor retail network, the government announced that K. Nanthakumar, currently serving as Registrar of Cooperative Societies, has been placed at the disposal of TASMAC for appointment as its Managing Director. He replaces T. Christuraj in the role.
The government order stated that the terms and conditions relating to Nanthakumar’s deputation on foreign service would be governed under the provisions laid down in G.O. Ms No. 167 issued by the Public (Special-A) Department on February 21, 1994.
The reshuffle comes amid a series of administrative measures being initiated by the Vijay-led government after assuming office earlier this week. Officials indicated that the new administration is aiming to streamline governance and strengthen coordination across major departments through strategic appointments and redistribution of responsibilities.
Political observers view the transfers as part of the government’s broader effort to establish its administrative priorities and bring experienced officers into crucial sectors dealing with finance, public administration, infrastructure, tourism, and revenue management.
Further administrative changes are also expected in the coming days as the new government continues to reorganise the state bureaucracy and align departments with its governance agenda.
