Raipur, May 2026 : Nava Raipur Atal Nagar, the modern and meticulously planned capital city of Chhattisgarh, has today emerged as one of India’s fastest-growing smart cities. Major Achievements in Smart Infrastructure and Urban Services

The city has achieved a major milestone in urban water management through the establishment of a 52 MLD capacity pipeline network and an advanced water treatment plant. This system has ensured long-term drinking water supply for the existing population as well as for newly developing sectors of the city.

To strengthen rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge, authorities have developed 10.66 kilometres of bioswales, recharge pits, and natural drainage systems. These initiatives have not only improved water conservation but also enhanced the environmental sustainability of the city.

The extension of the Raipur-Rajim rail service up to the Central Business District (CBD) station of Nava Raipur has significantly improved regional connectivity and urban mobility.

In a major step towards women’s safety and self-employment, the administration has launched a Pink E-Rickshaw service. Simultaneously, charging infrastructure for electric buses has already been established, and the e-bus service is expected to commence soon. EduCity Emerging as a Major Educational Hub

The education sector in Nava Raipur has witnessed substantial development. Thirteen cooperative schools have been upgraded, while two higher secondary schools have been transformed into smart schools equipped with modern facilities.

A large-scale EduCity project is being developed over nearly 200 acres. Prestigious national institutions such as the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU), and Narsee Monjee have already been allotted land within the project. In addition, a residential school is proposed on 17 acres in Sector-7.

MediCity to Become a New Healthcare Destination

To promote medical tourism and world-class healthcare services, a state-of-the-art MediCity is being developed across nearly 500 acres. The project will include super-speciality hospitals, medical and nursing colleges, diagnostic centres, dharamshalas, hotels, and residential facilities.

Under this initiative, land has already been allocated to Bombay Hospital for establishing a 300-bed super-speciality hospital. Around 50 acres have also been earmarked for residential development through private investment, with an estimated investment potential of approximately Rs 350 crore.

Women Empowerment and Welfare of Workers

A 1,000-capacity Working Women’s Hostel is being constructed at a cost of Rs 109 crore to provide secure and comfortable accommodation for working women. The project is expected to strengthen women’s safety, convenience, and self-reliance.

Additionally, a fully-equipped labour housing complex with a capacity of 1,100 migrant workers is being built at a cost of Rs 40 crore to improve worker welfare and living conditions.

Emerging as a Tourism, Cultural and MICE Destination

Nava Raipur is also rapidly emerging as a centre for tourism, culture, and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) activities.

Sevagram is being developed on 77 acres, while the Art of Living Foundation has been allotted 40 acres in Sector-39 for large-scale cultural and community initiatives.

In Sectors 4 and 10, a Convention Centre-cum-Sports City is being developed over approximately 120 acres through private investment. The Rs 800 crore project will feature a world-class convention centre along with sports facilities for tennis, swimming, wrestling, archery, squash, and other disciplines.

Rising Hub for Semiconductors, Electronics and IT

Nava Raipur is set to become a major technology destination with the establishment of the state’s first SEZ-based AI Data Centre Park, expected to attract nearly Rs 4,000 crore in private investment.

The city has also allocated land for India’s first GaN technology-based semiconductor manufacturing plant. Alongside this, approval has been received from the Government of India for an Electronic Common Facility Centre (CFC), which will offer advanced services such as PCB prototyping, 3D printing, and EMC testing.

Under the plug-and-play model in the CBD area, fully furnished office spaces have been provided to IT companies. Nearly 1,000 youths are currently employed there, with potential for generating an additional 2,000 jobs in the near future.

Green Development and Sustainable Urbanisation

Under the “People for People” campaign, more than one lakh saplings have been planted, helping preserve and expand the city’s 26 per cent green cover.

Initiatives such as bioswales, recharge systems, and green corridors are helping establish Nava Raipur as an environmentally friendly and water-sensitive city focused on sustainable urban development.

Future Roadmap of the Development Authority

The Nava Raipur Atal Nagar Development Authority has outlined several ambitious projects to make the city more modern and investment-friendly in the coming years.

Key future initiatives include:

• Infrastructure development worth Rs 800 crore across 1,100 acres in Serikhedi and Mandir Hasaud areas.
• Formation of a special authority for integrated development of the State Capital Region (SCR).
• Expansion of MediCity over 500 acres and EduCity over 200 acres.
• Positioning Nava Raipur as a national hub for IT, ITeS, and Artificial Intelligence.
• Increasing annual capital expenditure capacity to Rs 1,000 crore.
• Encouraging private investment in wellness centres, wedding destinations, tourism, and MICE projects.
• Development of modern infrastructure in affected gram panchayats under village development plans.
• Technological upgradation of the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC).
• Introduction of 40 new electric buses to strengthen public transportation.
