Tripura: Errored University Results Triggered Mass Scale Student Protests Across Entire Tripura.

Agartala; May 2026: Anger and frustration among students across Tripura are intensifying following the publication of allegedly errored examination results by Tripura University. What began as protests led by Left-affiliated student bodies SFI and later joined by Congress-backed student organisations NSUI has now expanded significantly, with activists and students associated with Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) also joining the agitation in recent days.

Large numbers of students staged demonstrations during the entire week in front of Women’s College in the state capital, raising slogans against the university administration and demanding immediate correction of the results. Protesters also burnt an effigy of Tripura University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Shyamal Das during the agitation.

Students alleged that the university authorities, particularly Vice-Chancellor Dr. Shyamal Das and Controller of Examinations Chinmoy Roy, have failed to address their grievances or listen to their concerns despite repeated appeals.

According to the agitating students, numerous irregularities have surfaced in the recently declared results. Many students reportedly could not find their results on the university website at all, while several others who had appeared for examinations were marked absent. A large number of students have also allegedly been shown as having backlogs in multiple papers, triggering widespread confusion and panic among examinees.

Students further alleged that despite the delay in publishing the examination results, the university administration failed to rectify the discrepancies before releasing them. Adding to the resentment, the Controller of Examinations reportedly proceeded on leave without resolving the complaints.

Although Vice-Chancellor Dr. Shyamal Das reportedly met ABVP-affiliated students, protesters claimed he refused to acknowledge any fault on the part of the university’s examination department. While he is understood to have admitted that there were shortages of technical staff and certain technical issues, students alleged that no concrete roadmap or corrective mechanism was presented to resolve the crisis.

The controversy has also sparked concern because the Higher Education Department of Tripura has already decided to cancel summer vacations in colleges to facilitate internal examinations. However, students say the university has still not taken effective steps to correct the disputed results.

With semester examinations approaching, many students are now facing severe mental stress and uncertainty as their final results remain unresolved. Protesters alleged that despite the growing unrest, no authority is willing to seriously address the students’ problems.

The agitation is gradually gaining momentum across the state, and student organisations have warned that larger protests may follow if immediate corrective action is not taken by the university authorities.
