Amid the intense heatwave in Uttar Pradesh, the Yogi government is working with full seriousness and sensitivity to ensure uninterrupted power supply to people as per the fixed schedule. On the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Energy Department is continuously monitoring the power supply system, providing major relief to people during the harsh summer season.

In this regard, Additional Chief Secretary (Energy) and Chairman of Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation, Dr. Ashish Goyal, conducted a detailed review of the state’s electricity supply arrangements through video conferencing.

Through video conferencing, he sought detailed information regarding power supply from Managing Directors to Executive Engineers of all DISCOMs and issued necessary directions.

The UPPCL Chairman also reviewed the power supply situation with Chief Engineers of Noida, Lucknow, Ghaziabad, Bulandshahr, Bijnor, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, Moradabad, Rampur, Mathura, Firozabad, Jhansi, Bareilly, Unnao, Varanasi, Ayodhya, Gorakhpur, Deoria and Kanpur (KESCO).

Dr. Ashish Kumar Goyal said during the meeting, “People are badly affected by the severe heat and smooth power supply is extremely important in such weather conditions.”

He directed that all areas should receive electricity as per the fixed schedule and all officers and employees must remain especially alert in their respective areas. Patrolling should be carried out at substations and sensitive locations.

He also directed identification of areas where sudden increase in load during night hours puts extra pressure on transformers and lines, and ordered checking drives with vigilance teams in such places.

During the meeting, the UPPCL Chairman also reviewed transformer damage, tripping and availability of materials. Chief Engineers informed that efforts are being made to ensure 18-hour power supply in rural areas and 24-hour supply in urban areas as per schedule. Night duty has been assigned at all substations and senior officials are monitoring arrangements till late night. Adequate manpower and materials are available for maintenance work.

Chairman Dr. Goyal directed that regular inspection of lines, substations and transformers should continue. Complaints received on helpline number 1912 should be resolved quickly. Applications received on the Jhatpat Portal for new electricity connections should also be disposed of promptly.

Chief Engineers informed that compared to previous years, improvement has been seen in reducing tripping and restoring supply faster. Efforts are also being made with vigilance teams to prevent power theft in areas witnessing sudden load increase at night, which has helped reduce load and electrical faults in several places.

Dr. Goyal further directed that deployment of officers at sensitive stations should be increased and relay settings should be corrected. Test division personnel should work in campaign mode for this purpose. Better coordination with the transmission department should be maintained and the Director Distribution should regularly review the same.

He also instructed that normal shutdowns should be avoided during the heatwave and any issues like transformer damage, snapped wires or tripping should be resolved without delay. Transmission and distribution officials should work in coordination so that electricity supply is not disrupted due to transmission issues.

Dr. Goyal also instructed officials to remain present in their respective work areas and maintain good public communication. He directed formation of WhatsApp groups involving public representatives, media persons, consumers and social workers so that important updates related to power supply can be shared regularly. Special vigilance should be maintained in areas facing frequent power disruptions. Senior officials should personally visit such sensitive locations, understand the issues and ensure their resolution while also informing consumers through communication channels.

The UPPCL Chairman said officers and employees associated with electricity distribution work should provide correct information to consumers regarding power disruptions and supply. He warned that action would be taken against anyone whose negligence affects electricity supply.

Managing Director of Power Corporation, Nitish Kumar, also addressed the meeting. He reviewed revenue collection, progress of the business plan and the upcoming action plan, and directed officials to speed up the work.
