Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meet in New Delhi Delivers “Strong, Concrete Results” on Maritime Security and Critical Minerals: US Envoy
New Delhi, May 2026 : US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor on Tuesday said that the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in New Delhi delivered “strong, concrete results”, with member countries announcing a series of new initiatives spanning maritime surveillance, domain awareness, port infrastructure development and coast guard coordination.
In a post on social media platform X, Gor highlighted the key outcomes of the meeting and said the Quad had strengthened cooperation across strategic and economic domains aimed at ensuring a stable and secure Indo-Pacific region.
“Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting delivers strong, concrete results. From enhanced maritime security to new initiatives on maritime security, port infrastructure, critical minerals, and energy resilience,” he wrote.
He said the Quad countries—India, the United States, Japan and Australia—will also collaborate with Fiji to strengthen critical port infrastructure, signalling expanded engagement with Pacific Island nations as part of broader regional outreach.
Gor placed special emphasis on the newly announced Critical Minerals Framework, stating that it would help strengthen global supply chains by improving cooperation in mining, processing and recycling of essential minerals. These resources are considered crucial for emerging technologies, including clean energy systems, electric vehicles and advanced manufacturing.
According to the US envoy, closer coordination among Quad members in this sector will help reduce strategic vulnerabilities and support long-term economic security for participating countries. He noted that diversification of supply chains remains a key priority amid global economic uncertainty.
“Energy security is national security,” Gor stated, adding that the Quad’s newly launched Indo-Pacific Energy Security Initiative will enhance cooperation in energy technology, resilience building and emergency preparedness.
He further said that the initiative is designed to promote a more stable and secure regional energy environment, while also ensuring reliable access to energy resources during crises. As part of this effort, the US Department of Energy will host a dedicated Quad Fuel Security Forum later this year to further deepen technical and policy coordination among member nations.
The Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi was attended by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi.
The Quad grouping brings together India, the United States, Japan and Australia, with a shared commitment to supporting an open, free and inclusive Indo-Pacific region that is both prosperous and resilient. The platform has evolved over the years from a disaster-response coordination mechanism formed during the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami into a strategic dialogue forum.
The first formal Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting was held in 2019, marking its transition into a structured diplomatic framework focused on regional security, economic cooperation and infrastructure development.
Officials noted that the latest meeting reflects growing convergence among Quad nations on issues such as maritime security, resilient supply chains and sustainable energy cooperation, all of which are increasingly seen as critical to maintaining stability in the Indo-Pacific region amid shifting global geopolitical dynamics.
The outcomes of the New Delhi meeting are expected to guide further collaborative projects and policy coordination among the four nations in the coming months.
