IPS Officer Princee Rani Appointed First Woman IG of BSF Tripura Frontier
Agartala, May 2026 : Senior IPS officer Princee Rani of the Tripura cadre has been appointed as the new Inspector General (IG) of the Border Security Force (BSF) Tripura Frontier, replacing incumbent IG Aloke Kumar Chakraborty, officials said on Thursday.
Her appointment marks a historic milestone as she becomes the first woman officer to head the BSF’s Tripura Frontier, a strategically important formation responsible for guarding the 856-km-long international border between India and Bangladesh.
Officials said Princee Rani is expected to assume charge soon. A 2005-batch IPS officer of the Tripura cadre, she is widely recognised for her extensive experience in policing, administration and internal security-related assignments.
Her appointment comes shortly after her husband, IAS officer Parshant Kumar Goyal, returned to the Tripura administration after serving on central deputation. Goyal is currently serving as Secretary of the Public Works Department and the Finance Department in the Tripura government.
Over the years, Princee Rani has held several important positions in Tripura Police. Before her deputation to the BSF, she served in senior policing and administrative roles, including Deputy Inspector General of Traffic. During her tenure, she supervised the functioning of the Superintendent of Police (Traffic) and Superintendent of Police of the Government Railway Police (GRP) in the state.
The officer also served as Inspector General in the National Security Guard before moving to the BSF on a lateral transfer. Her experience in national security operations and law enforcement is expected to strengthen border management efforts in the sensitive northeastern state.
Princee Rani has been recognised for her distinguished service with honours including the Medal for Meritorious Service, awarded for exceptional contributions in policing and public service. Officials noted that her leadership and experience would be valuable in handling the complex security challenges along the India-Bangladesh border.
Tripura shares an 856-km international border with Bangladesh and is surrounded by the neighbouring country on three sides, making the state strategically sensitive from a security perspective. The border region has long remained vulnerable to issues such as illegal migration, smuggling, trafficking, cross-border crimes and illegal trade activities.
The BSF Tripura Frontier plays a key role in maintaining border security and preventing trans-border criminal activities in coordination with state police and other security agencies.
Officials believe that Princee Rani’s appointment will further strengthen the force’s operational preparedness and administrative efficiency in the region. Her elevation to the post is also being seen as an important step towards greater representation of women officers in leadership roles within central armed police forces.
