MLA Jeje Lalpekhlua Distributes Farm Tools, Opens Tea Processing Unit

Hnahthial, June 2026: South Tuipui MLA Jeje Lalpekhlua on Monday distributed agricultural tools to farmers in three villages under the Watershed Development Component (WCD) of the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) 2.0. He also inaugurated a Tea Processing Unit at South Chawngtui village.

The distribution programme, organized by the District Rural Development Office (DRDO), Hnahthial, covered the villages of Khawhri, Tarpho, and South Chawngtui in the MLA’s constituency.

Addressing the gathering, Jeje Lalpekhlua expressed satisfaction that the residents of the three villages were receiving various development benefits through DRDO initiatives. He commended the efforts and dedication of DRDO officials and staff in implementing the programme. He urged farmers to make effective use of the tools provided by the government and expressed hope that the equipment would enhance agricultural productivity and improve livelihoods.

The MLA also welcomed the opening of the Tea Processing Unit at South Chawngtui and encouraged local residents to utilize the facility to generate greater economic benefits.

He further noted that government efforts to establish a more organized and efficient market for broom grass had enabled farmers in hilly areas to earn higher incomes. He also appreciated the role of the Mutual Help and Cooperative Savings Scheme (MUHCS), which has helped many families reduce their financial burden related to healthcare and other expenses. He urged more people in the constituency to take advantage of such welfare initiatives.

The farm tools distributed under PMKSY 2.0 included:

  • South Chawngtui: 14 brush cutters and 9 sprayers
  • Khawhri: 24 brush cutters, 5 sprayers, 2 amla juicers, and 1 turmeric grinder
  • Tarpho: 10 brush cutters and 11 sprayers

The programme for the inauguration of the Tea Processing Unit and distribution of farm tools at South Chawngtui was conducted by H.D. Lalpekmawia, Project Director of DRDO.

Speaking on the occasion, the Project Director noted that the PMKSY 2.0 project, which began in 2021-22, is nearing completion. He encouraged the project villages—South Chawngtui, Khawhri, and Tarpho—to continue utilizing the infrastructure, facilities, and benefits created under the scheme even after the project officially concludes, ensuring long-term and sustainable development.
