Amaravati Development in Full Swing, Says Nara Lokesh Amid Opposition Criticism

Amaravati, June 2026 : Andhra Pradesh Minister for Human Resources Development, Information Technology and Electronics Nara Lokesh on Sunday asserted that development works in the state capital Amaravati are progressing rapidly, dismissing claims that construction activities have slowed down or been affected by the monsoon.

“Amaravati is on full throttle—and there is no hitting pause,” Lokesh posted on social media platform X while sharing a video showcasing the pace of ongoing infrastructure projects in the capital city.

The video, featuring visuals of major construction sites across Amaravati, emphatically stated that work on the ambitious capital project continues uninterrupted despite recent rains. “Amaravati is unstoppable,” the narration declared, while urging people not to fall prey to what it described as false propaganda regarding the city’s development.

The footage highlighted progress on several landmark projects, including the iconic towers, the Assembly and High Court complexes, road networks, reservoirs, MLA and MLC Towers, AIS Towers, secretaries’ bungalows, GO Towers, NGO Towers, Group D Towers, the HappyNest housing project, and ministers’ residences.

The renewed push for Amaravati’s development comes amid criticism from the opposition YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), which has questioned the cost and scale of the infrastructure projects.

Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P. Narayana on Saturday accused the YSRCP of deliberately spreading misinformation about Amaravati’s development to gain political mileage. He argued that such campaigns would only further weaken the opposition’s support base.

Rejecting allegations that the government was incurring excessive expenditure on capital projects, Narayana cited cost comparisons to defend the construction works. He pointed out that the Union Cabinet had recently approved the construction of Central government offices in Amaravati, with the residential complex estimated at Rs 3,945 per square foot.

In comparison, he said, Amaravati’s flagship HappyNest housing project is being constructed at Rs 3,393 per square foot, while residential quarters for gazetted officers are estimated at Rs 3,684 per square foot.

The minister noted that several buildings planned for Amaravati are iconic structures intended to serve as symbols of the state’s aspirations, which naturally involve higher construction costs.

Narayana also personally inspected ongoing infrastructure works in the capital region, focusing on canal and drainage projects aimed at improving flood management during the monsoon season.

He reviewed the progress of bridge construction over Kondaveeti Vagu and Palavagu, stating that the projects are advancing at a fast pace and will play a crucial role in ensuring efficient drainage and preventing flooding in the capital region.

The state government has reiterated its commitment to transforming Amaravati into a world-class capital city, with officials maintaining that construction activities remain on track and that the vision for the city continues to move forward at full speed.
