Chengalpattu Court to Hear CM Vijay Divorce Case Amid Reconciliation Buzz

Chennai, June 2026: The Chengalpattu Family Welfare Court is scheduled to hear the divorce petition involving Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and TVK President C. Joseph Vijay and his wife Sangeetha on Monday, amid growing speculation about a possible reconciliation between the couple.

The case has drawn significant public and media attention due to Vijay’s position as the Chief Minister and one of Tamil Nadu’s most prominent political figures.

Sangeetha had approached the family court seeking dissolution of her marriage with Vijay, citing irreconcilable differences. In her petition, she reportedly alleged mental harassment and claimed that Vijay was involved in an extramarital relationship with a film actress.

She has also sought maintenance in accordance with Vijay’s social and financial standing and requested permission to continue residing in the family’s Neelankarai residence.

The matter had previously come up before the Chengalpattu Family Welfare Court, but was adjourned after neither Vijay nor Sangeetha appeared in person. Their respective legal representatives attended the proceedings on their behalf.

During the earlier hearing, counsel for both parties informed the court that their clients are public figures and that personal appearances could pose security and logistical challenges. They requested that future proceedings be conducted through video conferencing.

Taking note of these submissions, the court had postponed the matter to June 15.

The latest hearing assumes added significance as it comes shortly after Vijay assumed office as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Political observers and supporters are closely watching whether Vijay will appear before the court personally or seek permission to participate virtually.

The proceedings have also generated considerable interest following reports on social media suggesting that efforts may be underway to reconcile the couple.

While neither Vijay nor Sangeetha has publicly commented on these reports, speculation regarding a possible reunion has gained momentum in recent days.

Legal experts note that family courts often encourage mediation and reconciliation efforts in matrimonial disputes before arriving at a final decision. However, the course of the proceedings will depend on the submissions made by both sides and the court’s directions.

Given the high-profile nature of the case, Monday’s hearing is expected to attract widespread attention from the public, the media and political circles.

Whether the proceedings provide any indication of the future of Vijay and Sangeetha’s relationship remains to be seen, but the case continues to be one of the most closely watched personal matters involving a serving Chief Minister in recent times.
